egr removal

Hi, I own a 85 zxt. When I took off the egr, I took off the little metal gasket. I come to a little metal gasket looking thing, and I pull on it. It comes out with a pipe attached to it, with a slot on the end of it like a flute. Can I throw this over my shoulder? And can I totally remove my egr solenoid an throw it over my shoulder too? Is it ok too leave the solenoid unplugged or do I have to put in a jumper or something so I don't fry my ecu? Sorry about all the questions. I'll go google now!

Ok, I had a talk with my common sense, and it said the air used to go through the flute thing, and now im blocking it off. So flute will have no meaning in engine. Just in case I will throw part toward work bench instead of garbage. The egr control solenoid should be ok to remove as long as I have a federal ecu in my car. I guess the ca ecu cars have something in the ecu for egr that will throw a code, but I have a federal so I'm gonna try it.

coil is immatrial just cut it off and heat shrink so it doesn't short out. you did a lot of work for nothing. take it off insert a piece of beer can to block off the hole and then retighten.

U mean put a piece of beer can in the hole and put the egr back on! I will be putting on a nice block off plate. Just wanted to know if I could pull the tube out of the collector. And I understand about the plug to the egr solenoid, I will heat shrink those 2 wires after cutting plug off, thanks.
