Question Ecm Help!!!

Ok, I need some help here guys. I was putting in a pair of subs and an amp in my N/A 1982 280zx Auto and I ran into my ECM.....I am confused as to why it is in here....you all tell me what's wrong with these pics.

Now correct me if I am wrong but isn't the black ECM from a turbo car? If anyone can read the numbers on it and let me know I would like that allot. If in fact it is a Turbo computer I will trade someone this fully functional ECM for a FULLY FUNCTIONAL N/A ECM...any takers?

Thanks guys..and or gals.

THX,
looks just like mine, except mine says 83 only. It is not a turbo ecu, from what i understand the turbo ones have 2 plug ins and not just one 35 pin plug in, like yours and mine has. You can go on ebay and look at
Item number: 130066689784. The ecu's on the bottom of the first row are non-turbo, the plug looks like yours. The ones on top of the first row and the other rows have two plug ins. these are the turbo ones.
But.... to answer your question, yours is a non-turbo.
Ok, i figured out how to make it easy.... here's what the different plug ins look like on the two ecu's...

There is One thing wrong with that pic though. It's Black. It's not supposed to be. It's a auto car. the ECU should be Gray. Not black. Black is 5 speed.

Oh. And that clearly say's 78 on it. What you need is a 82-83 Gray Auto ECU. Does the car run ok?

Yeppers... you can't plug a turbo ecu into an n/a wiring harness. They are diff connectors.

Turbo ecu connections:

Does the auto - 5 speed thing really matter? I drove my car for 5 months and it started running rich all of a sudden and backfiring. It wasnt until i pulled the ecu that i saw it said 82 auto, like from a yard. my car ran fine for the first 5 months i owned it, with that ecu in it.

PS sorry, nismo's pic actually shows 3 plugs, not 2, thanks for the pic.

Yes, the car seems to be running ok, thanks for all the info....I will be looking for the correct ECM.....the idle seems high in park after I drive for a bit 1,000rpm but when it is just sitting there warming up after it sits all night it idles at 900 or so in park....until I drive it. Does the ECM have anything to do with the auto tranny...cause if thats for a 5 speed then I know why it shifts into second at like 15 miles per hour with half throttle. Thanks guys.

TX. Just get a 82-83 ECU. The 78 models have less sensor's on the engine. Like a Head temp sensor. There is no Sensor on the N42's. that can effect the way your car runs. If you need. I have a 83 Auto ECU just siting waiting to get used from when i swapped my auto for a 5 speed.

Funny, I took my ECU out yesterday, because of having to change my clutch master. Reason why is I dropped my pin, and clip to hold the clutch pedal on. So I had to remove the panel, and ECU, to find them. Well I ended up not finding them. But I noticed my ECU said 1978 on it also, and it is black I believe weird.

And one more thing thx, is your ECU on the floor of the car? Or am I seeing things?

we have ECU's. TX. You should put the proper ECU in. Regardless if you get my old one or not. do you not have a 82-83 ECU near? My Car Came from factory as: 1983 280ZX 2+2 Auto N/A 3:54 R200
As is Now: 1983 280ZX 5 Speed N/A 3:90 R180
I changed the computer system when i did the trans swap. Back then i was told the car would not drive with the auto ECU in it. Reason why i swapped. If your's ain't running in Top Cond. try a newer ECU, See what it does. This one i have is yours if you wish. just pay shipping.

One reason you both might have a 78 ECU is, 78 Auto ECU= 189.95$ 83 Auto ECU=519.95$
Black Dragon Auto Only shows 78 and 83 A/T ECU. None for 79-82.

ecu

When I bought the turbo car it was minus the eccu. I quickly began searching the archives on the sites for the correct serial numbers to use.

What I found was that the ecus in the auto and manual differ in that the rpms drop off faster on a manual tranny during lift throttle shifting.

The rpms on the auto tranny don't drop as fast? during shifts, at least thats what I gathered.

The main thing is you don't want a california emission one. You want a Federal one.

The link here, http://maxima.theowensfamily.com/tsb/NTB94-097.pdf

Go to page 16. I don't know about that sticker showing '78 year, this shows all ecu part numbers from 1975 up to 1983...go to page 16 to see for yourself. Looks like the sticker might be a warning NOT to use in '78 or earlier cars, just my 2 cents.

will point you in the right direction, to make sure you get the right one for your car.

Look at the JECS number. The other number is the Nissan parts number.

Well here is a little background on the car....as some of you know I did a even swap for this car at a car lot for my 1992 RS Camaro. This 280 was not running correctly, it wouldn't go over like 40mph...spittin and missin the whole way. The car lot people said they put in a re-built tranny...it could be, it shifts hard when I shift manually and also it doesn't have the dust shield in front of the Tq converter. They told me that they got the tranny from a salvage yard, so I think they could have easily picked up a ECU and just figured it would be fine no matter what one they put in.

The thing is, what do I do with this ECU when I put in another one? I guess I will hold onto it in case one of you need it. Fub, I would like to get yours from you...33778 is my shipping area. WildMan...thanks but Fub is a little closer and I would rather still get the header from yourself...provided you haven't tossed it yet Thanks everyone, you guys are the best.

No I still have the headers, just need to get down to the post office to get a quote. I will try to do it soon man, just real busy lately with work, and my Z. I will let you know though for sure.

I am not sure what you mean by saying Fub is closer. I only have 3 ECU's, and 3 Z's. I don't have any spare ones, if that is what you were assuming. If I did I would hook you up, anyway enough of that.

And yes I agree, lots of friendly helpful individuals on this great website.
