Dashboard Aftermath

I just put in a fresh dash in my S130. BUT now the combination gauge doesn't work properly when i turn the radio on. My horn doesn't work either.

My speedometer also doesn't work. The first day I took the car out after I installed it, it was making noise and somewhat sputtering up as I sped up. When I turned the car on again it just stopped working fully. My tachometer is working good. I need some help. This is the first Z I've ever worked on.

I suggest checking all the connections (at the right kick panel & harness at the gauge clusters)...

As for the speedo, apparently you didn't reconnect it all the way either, as it's just mechanical.

more information is usually helpful, like what year is it? is it a turbo or not, and stuff like that.
what do you mean ur combo gauge doesn't work when you turn on the radio? do all the gauges start bouncing around or something lol?
as far as the speedometer, is the speedometer cable hooked up to the speedometer in the back? its not an electronic speedometer, make sure its fully connected too, the speedometer has a small bit of cable that comes out a few inches away from the speedometer and couples to the main speedometer cable, make sure that's connected too.
your horn doesn't work? did it work before you put in the dash? if it did, then check and make sure that all the wires are hooked into it.
with the car sputtering, what noise is it making and from where? also, did you go through the basics of car trouble shooting? such as is it getting spark, does the cap and rotor look good, is the oil good and high, are all the fuses good? stuff like that.

I'm pretty sure I connected everything on the combo gauge correctly but I'll double check.

As for the speedo I might of not connected it all the way since I barely got my arm in there to twist speedo cable on. Why is that thing so short?

I'm going to have to take the dash off again since I have to secure my heater core so that I can get my AC system working right either way. I just have to buy all the supplies to be ready.

That's going to be lots of fun ... This last time I took the dash off was my first time and I started around 1 and finished putting the new one back in until 2 in the morning.

It's an 83' NA. Everything but the speedometer was working fine before I took the old dash out. It's not an electronic speedometer by the way. On the combo gauge the oil press seems to be fine. The voltmeter reads a lower voltage and the clock turns off when I turn the radio on.

My horn did work before because I would beep at everybody that got in my way. haha

It is getting spark, cap and rotor look good, oil is good, and fuses are good.

maybe you have a bad battery, or perhaps even a bad alternator, try this test, turn on the lights in a pretty dark place so you can see them clearly, turn over the car, if the headlights lights go completely out when the engine starts then you might have a bad alternator, if the lights slightly dim but don't go completely out then your alternator is probably good so you may want to get the battery checked out by a battery place.
and the horn probably didn't get hooked up correctly when you took it off the steering column, take off the pad and make sure that the wires are not severed or anything and make sure they make a complete circuit

It would be easier to connect the cable to the back of the speedometer first. Then connect that to the one coming through the firewall. (which would be underneath the dash. It has made a it a lot more easier for me. As for your other issues. Just troubleshoot, and make sure things are connected, no burnt wires etc..... Good luck
