My Z has been a daily driver since day 1 of ownership 5 1/2 years ago. Well, as much as I could in between the inevitable repairs of 20+ years of wear. I've put about 40K on my Z. Bought it with 68K and it's at 108 and some change.

I have my BMW 325i as my daily driver. The Z only comes out in good weather & when I feel like driving REALLY crazy.

Mine is my daily driver! Every day. It probably shouldn't be, but I can't resist.

The single biggest reason my 280ZX isn't getting finished is because I drive it everyday. There are so many things that would have already been done to that car if I had taken it off the streets for a while. Now that the Z32 is gone from my life I just need to find a good Z32 to make my daily driver so that I can pull the S130 off the road and finish it.

I just can't get the 280ZX to the point of being "Show Car Pretty" and drive it at the same time. Every time I turn around somebody is putting a fresh new scratch, dent or ding in it. Plus there's just the upkeep associated with the miles I put on it. I am constantly doing maintenance instead of performing upgrades or improvements. Working 70 hours a week doesn't help much either

I would love to do like L-Dub did and just drop the thing off somewhere to let someone else dick with it for a year or so and then pick it up a couple days before the MSA show That would rock. I may just have to that soon.

Rod.

P.S. Nobody here will care, but XM Radio is playing "Holiday in Cambodia" by the Dead Kennedy's right now! So sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

My 280zx became my first daily driver about 3 weeks ago! Is it just me or is our N/A gas mileage not so bad? Ive only dropped by the gas station only twice and paid a total of $55 of 89 octane.

i hear you rod, its hard to fix what you drive, especially when its gets hurt cause you drive it, thats why theres dents in my air dam, that aluminum doesnt like auto-x cones or inclines into strip malls. or the rock chips, stuff like that, right now i need to do the intake gasket, but need the time.

My 280ZX has almost been a daily driver since the day my dad bought it back in 1983. It only had a few years of being garaged and unused when we first moved out here until I began to restore it and put it back on the road. Since then, everyday, rain or shine (although somedays I'm sure it wished it stayed inside...) it has driven, until it's recent heart attack and lack of running

Speaking of driving it everday, you wouldn't believe how many teenagers these days have no clue what it is ... and now that i think about it, police for that matter too.

Names from teenagers:
Ferrari, Porsche, small red italian sports car
The only tickets I've ever gotten (were parking tickets) so far have read:
Make: Mazda Model: RX - 7
and
Make: Nissan Model: 280ZX Datsun
Anyone else get some interesting names?
But on the upside, alot of my friend's parents absolutely love my 280ZX, I've actually taken friend's parents for rides!! (they're always really happy to see me... hahahaha)

sorry I got off topic...

I fully agree, mine wouldn't have it's ungodly amounts of door dings it has if I were to take it off for a while again. I fixed alot of them but I did have to take it to high school for a year... = door ding central. And maybe I'd get to finish off the interior and everything else that isn't finished...

Back in highschool, I had to drive some girls home in my Z, after a party (THIS IS WHY I HAVE A 2+2... TRY FITTING 6 GIRLS IS YOUR 2SEATERS!). For days after that I had girls asking for a ride in my CORVETTE

Sure... I'll take ya for a ride... and I have a present for you in my pocket!

The max in my 2 seater has been 5 people, 2 in the passanger (with top off) 2 in the back and then myself driving, but wow 6 girls, even with a 2+2 that's still alot! hopefully they were small...

I agree that backseat will come in handy from time to time... I do love the fact that most people think its an old porsche. Everyone loves the 280ZX, all the people who remember the name Datsun think it's cool too.

For a Daily Driver I use the van. It's not fantastic, it leaks transmission fluid, and is going to need a new radiator soon, but hey it works and keeps me from having to put my Z through the horrible Ohio weather. Oh and that's why I keep jumper cables, funnels, oil, transmission fluid, etc with me. You never know what you might need. The van is great for carrying it all too.

In the few years that I've owned my 280zx only one person has ever been able to identify it as a 280zx. But he owns one so it doesn't really count. Most of the old schoolers who are car savvy can identify it as a Z, but no one has ever guessed 280zx. The younger crowd tends to think it's an RX-7 or some other sports car. I've gotten vette and jaguar as well. But for the most part its just "what kind of car is that?" It's funny how little people today know about the heritage of todays cars. I've met people who can quote every spec for every Honda ever made but couldn't tell me what kind of car I drive as they stare at it and wonder how 145HP can take their 160HP Si
