Clutch Question?
Clutch Question?
Last weekend with the help of another guy we swapped out my clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing. The car shifts without any problem, but when changing gears, the clutch seems to be slow coming out of neutral, like the pedal is still slightly depressed. Today is the first time i drove it since last sunday night after the swap, and it seemed some better but not like it should be. The guy who helped me said that the pedal was not as firm because the pressure plate must be different than the old one. While removing i noticed that of the 24 tips on the spindles on the p plate, 16 tips were broken off and while holding it i snapped 3 more off with my fingers.
We did not open up the operating cylinder to let any air in, but could my problem be that the clutch pedal needs bleeding? Any suggestions? We have plans for a 250 mile trip with another couple to the mountains soon and want to settle this issue before i put it back on the road. It is an 83 5 speed non-turbo.

Bled the clutch and seems like it is doing better. I am going to let it cool and change my plugs. By slave cylinder, do you mean operating cylinder down by the tranny? As far as I know it is original. Thanks for your help.

if it is the original you might better change it and the master out before the trip. having bailed out my son when the slave went out on his 85T on a dark and rainy night at 0200 I can say spending $40 on new parts is well worth it.
