Just wanted to know the cutoff year for car inspection? I went to an exhaust shop and the dude said that since my car is an '82 that this is the last year for it. Is there any truth to this? It seems to me that I would have to wait until '07 since it is supposed to be 25 years but Im not sure.

 

21 year's here in mississippi, mine car is 22 (it's an 83)

the lil inspection sticker that sits on your bottom left(driver) side. usealy changes color every year

 

i've never had to have my car inspected living in Arizona, now i have get it inspected here because my AZ tags run out next month and i'll have to get NY plates. i've heard that the inspection here is quite rigorous, i might have to get some seat belts that actually work

 

No emissions inspection in this part of VA (though some of the northern counties near MD have them) but ALL vehicles here have to pass a vehicle safety inspection in order to be registered. It gets you a seperate decal (other than the sticker on you plate) that you have to place on your windshield.
When I lived in CA it was an emissions inspection every year (or was it every other?) but they didn't havea safety inspection there.
Every other state I've lived in didn't have any sort of inspection at all. In NE they would go out and verify the VIN and stuff if it was an out of state car, but no other inspection.

Each state (and local) government sets their own standard for testing. But they all must atleast comply with the government standards (which aren't very high as you can tell by states that don't even require inspection).

To be certain check with your Department Of Transportation or your local DMV. They'll have the answers for you. Most of this info can be found online. I've yet to come across some sort of testing or registration regulation I couldn't find online.
