#1... 99.9% of junk yards don't have a Datsun section... they have a Nissan section, in which the 280zx's would be found.

#2... www.car-parts.com might help.

#3... if all else fails, use the YellowPages & call the largest wrecking yards around & ask for one.

#4... esmile!

What i mean is, finding datsuns in a junkyard around here is like finding a supermarket in etheopia, it just doesnt happen.

Just go to a parts store like Napa and replace the bearing. It's no big deal as you can press it in (use a block of wood & a mallet). Good luck

You can just take that belt off and drive the car. It is for your power steering pump. If you have a steering rack you'll still be able to drive the car fine for now.

Hey Bleach, since I have been driving my '82. I haven't had the belt or pump on. Is that hard on my rack and pinion? Just wanted to know, because somebody at my work said, it would damage my boots and such. Not having power steering, doesn't really bother me. But if it is doing damage, then I need to know. Thanks bro'

I don't really know how bad it would be on the rack but I doubt it does any damage. I think spinning a power steering pump all the time with no fluid would cause damage. But the boots? they just set there and keep the grease on the ends of the rack.

speaking of boots...

I don't see why it would damage anything considering all the power steering pump is doing is just adding force to the rack to make it easier to turn.

Thanks guys, that is good to know. I will just leave it off, and keep going without it. Like I said doesn't really bother me, to not have it. Now my Firebird on the other hand, would be a major pain to steer her. Totally different setup than my Z.

Oil pump is located at the bottom of your timing chain cover and is driven by an internal gear... not a belt. If you are talking about the WATER PUMP... it is driven by the same belt as the alternator (which is a diff belt than the steering pump).

If you remove the belt and the steering is a little too stiff for your preference, it helps to totally remove the pump, and then plug where the lines went to your rack. You'll want to leave fluid in the rack, but turn it stop to stop to slosh out the extra fluid. It should leave just enough to keep it lubricated, if its anything like the power steering on the 2nd gen rx7... How much can a power steering setup vary?
