Brakes make me grouchy!
Have any of you guys tried the Albany brake pads from Autozone? I suggest that you stay the heck away from those crappy pads!! Those damn things scored my freshly machined rotors and had a persistant squeal that could have driven a banshee nuts. Luckily, I got my money back on them after all that hassle.
Now I'm working on the rears... Do any of you also find them to be a total pain in the ***? What's up with that bracket and all of those springs and clips? To add more fun, my passenger side rear caliper is completely shot, leaking brown rusty fluid from all around the seal.
Looks like my Z is going to be down for a few days. Oh well, I suppose it's better than making payments on a new car....

Yes, those rear calipers are definatly a trouble point on my 280ZX. I've rebuilt and replaced them twice. I rebuilt the front calipers when I got the car just for preventative maintenance and I've never had to do anything with the front since then.
On the 82-83 style rear calipers, if you rebuild them, also remove the parking brake spring, lever, and open it up to expose the joint inside. Fill it with grease. I had one that was dry and it ended up eating itself up from the inside and eventually started a brake fluid leak. The only fix was to replace the whole caliper.

Well, I ended up just replacing the whole caliper. I found a semi-loaded one from a local import specialist for $100. I guess that it's a good deal, judging that it came with the bracket and all new springs and clips. Installation was a piece of cake! I had to buy an expensive set of flare wrenches to get the lines off without mangling them... What a headache! Oh well, everything's all back together and she stops on a dime!

Hey Bleach, when you're talking about having a rear brake problem, is it the right rear? Cause I replaced the right rear caliper about 2 years ago since it was chattering during around town driving and wasn't even clamping down on the rotor. It was fine until about 2 months ago and now that chattering is starting back up. This is really pissing me off. Can't drive anywhere without hearing that rear caliper making noise.
