Bolt on 2.5" SS downpipe for 280zx Turbo

Hi, just Gauging interest for a downpipe that would directly bolt on to a 280zx with the borg warner t-5 transmision. Currently no one makes a down pipe for the ZX, Jeff Priddy use to a long time ago but no longer makes them. Im trying to figure wether or not it would be worth it. As for price Im not sure, Ill see how serious people are about buying them.

Thanks for your time
And I really hope I posted this in the right section, I figured it shouldnt actually be in the market place since Im not actually selling anything yet.

Rob

I could use a 2.5" to 3" expansion too.

Thanks for the feedback guys! As for the 2.5"-3.0" expansion that would be no problem. It has been proven many times there is no need for a 3inch downpipe, especially since the outlet on the stock T3 is barely over 2". I was just trying to get a feal for how interested people would be. After christmas break I will probably start making a few to start selling here and there.

And J30- not sure about for the S30, Ill have to see what it would take. Who knows maybe your car could be used to test fit.

I agree... 3" is overkill on a stock to mild L28ET. Just adding more weight w/ no power benefit. (Actually I doubt 3" is any heavier than 2.5")

hmm 3" over kill? no, then why do i hear everone going with 3" after the down pipe? Anyways definetly you can use the car as a mock up....And is around 325 hose a mild build...top goal of 420...TEHE 420....and where are you at KTM?

Everyone? I've seen a few 3" setups... usually for "wow factor" or because they think "bigger is always better."

How about for a 350hp range..the 2.5 be sufficent?...i don't know, but for the ford v8's im used to you need backpressure to build torque...but with the turbo you need flow..correct?...so what would you do? 2.5 or 3 for a 300+ hp. range....I like the wow factor though!

What would I do? I did a 2.5" exhaust. My goal is 300whp... I'm at about 265-270whp now. Whenever I get my 370cc injectors & SAFC hooked up, I should be there... with no exhaust probs.

You'd be surprised how much the turbo will reduce the sound.

Anyway, with a turbo, the bigger the better. Yes, 2.5" is probably sufficient, but you want absolute minimal back pressure on a turbo. Yes, you'll give up some low end off boost torque, but who cares about that?!

You'll get faster spool up and less turbo lag with a bigger down pipe and the largest exhaust pipe diameter you can manage. Preferably mandrel bent, not crush bent.

score^^^ i knew i had some point when i said 3 inch. those were my reasons to. because the turbo alone will create sufficient back pressure so you dont blow rings or lose crazy amounts of torque and for the quicker spool. and you all tried to hate on the 3"

I commonly hate on 3"
bigger pipes also does make more noise. I'm planning to go 2.5" all the way back. But first I'd just like my car to run good and get decent gas milage. It is having issues again.

Wrecked, I do in fact live in Maine, better start driving haha. And I am not "hating" on 3" downpipes. In fact once I put my new turbo on I will be making a 3" downpipe, mostly because the outlet on my Holset is 3". But right in the turbo guide on HybridZ it is suggested for most setups(unless your going crazy) you should run a 2.5" and go to 3" ASAP.

KTM I was reading your car domain... you purchased those wheels for $55 each? You said you got a discount for joining NASA? Can you share the details?

Your car looks great, you did a lot of work and your attention to detail shows off.

Thanks for the compliments, your car looks pretty damn clean too! Iv done a lot to it since the pictures on cardomain, once spring is here Im going to get some real good pictures. And sorry to say but the deal with NASA ended last year. But you can get em for $500 from MSA, http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/WWC19 they also make these new rims called fourplays that look pretty cool.

And Wrecked.... stainless steel is needed if you ask me. Atleast if you want it to last. And as for price Im not sure yet, MSA sells there basic downpipe for $300(doesnt fit 280zx). I would like to try to beat that price. But like I said I wont be starting this project for a little while. I have to start getting everything together. I just wanted to see if there was enough interest to even look into making them. Once I have made a few and people have tried them I think the demand will get a little better. Also did you say you already have your 240Z? If so how come you haven't posted some pictures of it? Cant wait to see this thing. Oh and what are your exact plans for it, you should probably start a thread or something.
Thank you all for your time,
Rob

NASA used to have a deal with Konig. If you were a NASA member you could buy Konig wheels at a significant discount. If I remember, it was like $50/ea for 15" wheels, $55/ea for 16" wheels and $60/ea for 17" wheels.

They had such a huge response they were on back order for several months and they canceled the deal as soon as possible. They were loosing money like crazy.
