Alternator wires??

I have two connections that are at the alternator that I don't know what they are for. I replaced the alternator two years ago but I've never noticed that these weren't connected.

The ring connector on black wire is coming out of the same loom that is plugged into the alternator. The bullet connector with yellow wire is coming off a wire that is already connected to the alternator.

The fuel pump runs constantly instead of priming and sutting off, so I'm thinking one of these wires supposed to control that

If anyone knows where I should connect these wires. Please let me know... Its running/charging fine like it is I just wanted to get these connected to something if they need to be...

Black wire is a ground that should goto the block the bullet plug goes to a.... Capacitor? no... Condenser? I forgot what it was but I can see its missing and isn't really required so don't worry

Other wise it looks like its hooked up right! try cleaning the connections on the L shaped plug. thats for the fuel pump and dummy light.

PS: Those sway bar bushings you gave me awhile ago, do you know what size swaybar they fit? the front ones dont close all the way around the bar. they have like a 1 or 2 mm gap on them

Dummy light is off but fuel pump is running. I'll give it a cleaning and see what happens... thanks!

They were for the stock swaybars... They came in the poly bushing kit from MSA, which I believe I'm only using only 2 bushings now

Heh I see... I wonder if Its the factory sway bar then... I mic'ed it and their like 22-23mm (cheap mic) Oh well I'll try to fit them anyways lol Thanks again for them and good luck with your alternator. OH Also try cleaning the oil pressure connector as well thats how the fuel pump turns on and off is the L connector on the alt and Oil pressure switch/sender

Yeah, that black wire is a ground. As for the fuel pump continually running, have you checked / replaced the green fuel pump relay? IIRC (I haven't worked on an n/a 280zx in a long time) the fuel pump shuts off by signal from the AFM.

No, I haven't replaced the relay under the dash. I was thinking that it may be causing the problem since it sounds like the pump runs after the car is off sometimes...

It sounds like the relay for the pump. The alt has nothing to do with the fuel pump. All the alternator does is charge the battery. Your fuel pump gets its signal from the AFM as stated by nismo.. lol If your still having trouble check out xenons130.com and download the free FSM for your car as well as the EFI bible. It sure helps out a bunch.

So I guess all this I'm reading in my searches about the alternator is false? Search you have failed me!!

Thanks for the info though. I have the FSM on my laptop at home. I'll be taking a look this weekend and replacing the relay while I'm at it...

I wouldn't rule out the alternator ENTIRELY.... electrical problems can do funky things to cars. But if you've been driving the car for two years w/ the wiring that way, I don't think it's alternator wiring causing the fuel pump problem. I would ground that black wire to the alt, double check the relay & AFM before anything else
