I need a little exhaust basic instruction and advice
I have an 83 2+2 that has the original exhaust. The muffler has some holes in it and I was figuring I would replace it with something that both sounded better and improves performance
I was looking at the pacesetter monza systems but the only one they have for the 2+2 is the dual tip and I want a single tip (to fit in the cutout under the bumper)

1. The monza system pipe (out of the converter) is 2 inches. Is that bigger than the stock pipe?
2. Which part of an exhaust system improves performance and how does it improve performance? (I am talking about after the converter – I have no money to change the pipes off the engine).
3. Is their a system (after converter thru muffler) that anyone can recommend for my car.
4. If the system wont change performance should I just swap the muffler – and if so does anyone have any recommendations. I am more interested in a cool sound than a loud sound.

All parts of the exhaust affect performance.

I suggest taking your car to a local exhaust shop & have them quote you a price for a complete new exhaust, and for just a cat back. Request a Magnaflow muffler or similar.

Full exhaust should run $200-$400
Cat back $100-$200.

 

go right from the manifold, itll be cheaper than buying a whole system. local places are usually cheaper than catologues. if you dont need a cat for emmisions, delete it. thatll add a nicer tone and free up the flow. id go 2.5 inch just for future potential. i have a turbo muffler from magnaflow and would buy one again.
