81 motor in to a 1980 bod we got issues
My project has been on the back burner for the last 2 months. Secureing a engine hoist being painfull.
Anyway got the intake manifolds off both blocks engines both ready to lift out and I noticed some issues
My brand new rebuilt 81 motor has a sensor or what not. located plug side of block approx 4 inches from bell houseing in the head 2 prong.
The 80 does not nor does it have a harness for it. The power steering pump brackets and motor mounts do not match the 80.
What im worried about the most is that sensor I have no idea what it does or if I need it. also some dam idiot wanted to help and take my cap an wires off have no idea what order they go in.

The sensor on the right back side of the head is the CHTS (Cylinder Head Temp Sensor). The 280Z / 79-80 280ZX used the coolant temp sensor instead of the CHTS. So... use the thermostat housing from the 80 motor and you will be fine.
As for the motor mounts and ps bracket... all castings for the L28's had the same holes for the motor mounts. All the L-Series heads had the triangle mount for the power steering, but some earlier heads didn't have the casting in the center to block the port, as they used a mechanical fuel pump driven by the cam.

Thanks now as a look my thermo housing on the 81 had a lil plastic part and in the 80 its a sensor so im good! one regret is the 80's intake is way different.
The bowl looking part below the throttle body has a wire do not remeber where that connected to.
Kick myself not marking it !
got 3 1 wire connections a/c clutch that do dad thingy and the ground for the dist.
hope it will run somewhat so I can find its home.
Getting nervious rest of the wireing easy know every connection fuel pump is new and was shooting lightning from the coil. Getting my lift tomarrow morning and dropping my exaust manifold off for some new collector studs.

Thanks right now im going to wait till I get her cranking.....Either she starts or ill post my pics. Kind of a pain uploading to this site. Wild man where did you get your ground effects they look sick kinda jealous. I found the plastic cowl off an 82 turbo but no match to yours. Hate the cheap bumper look. You can tell nissan put them on as an after thought.

And thanks for the props, it was a little work and time. But well worth it.
