60mm Throttle Body Questions and other

Alright I have a few quick questions. I figure I probably have to redo my intake manifold gasket, whether I actually do or don't, I'm pretty much set on doing it. Anyway I was thinking about going with a 60mm throttle body, but my problem is can you run the air regulator with the bigger TB? From what I can tell it looks like you can't.

Also I've been thinking about getting a hold of an N42 intake. It doesn't matter if it's EGR-less or not, sense I no longer need the AAC valve, EGR is plugged, and I'm also wondering on that 4 way hose splitter that connects to the AAC, the J-pipe, and the Air Regulator, what that 4th part goes to and what it does, or how it operates? Also there's that smaller hose underneath that goes to that 4 way splitoff how is it used? This all seems like Stuff I could get rid of which would be eliminated with the N42 intake.

60mm TB & air regulator: (adapter plates like JSK Innovations should have spot for air reg hose connection). Mine is a custom one I had a neighbor make.

You should be able to run the AAC line from the J-pipe to the back side of the air regulator and get rid of everything else on the intake (aka N42). You may or may not have idle probs. :D

I tried just connecting the AAC to straight vacuum which would keep it closed at least when the car is running under vacuum. I didn't have any idle problems. My car actually idled alot lower, well I had idle problems, but they were no different than when I had a functioning vcm with my 280ZX ECU setup. I'm still wondering, can you get rid of that 4th thing? Whatever it is, that looks like it pushes in or something. Like I said you have on that 4-way split.

That thing the hose connects to right into the intake, then the air Regulator and AAC right across from one another and the fourth split running to the j-pipe. I want to know what that thing just going into the intake is.

NismoPick 12-07-2007 09:49 AM

It's all explained in the Haynes manual / FSM. :D

Oh, ok, so that's the Vacuum Control Valve, another thing that I don't necessarily need. Sounds like I could probably just unscrew it and put a plug in there sorta like what you do with the Pop-off valve.

Bleach 12-07-2007 02:39 PM

there might possibly be other threads showing how to remove and block off the AAC parts. :smirk:

duowing 12-07-2007 08:43 PM

I must be bad at searching on this site, but whenever I search I swear I never get a limited results list. Although I'll keep looking.

Edit: Ok I found the thread about Plugging intake ports, I think I'll have to go ahead and do that. Anyway one thing that I'm wondering about. So even though you just pulled off the AAC and removed the hose from it, it won't suck in air? I'd still think air would be able to come through that open port, but then again I haven't taken the AAC off and actually looked at it.

From Bleach's thread: https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...ghlight=j-pipe

Here's a good pic:

Yeah I found that plugging the intake ports thread, but my main concern now is, after plating off the AAC like he did, and leaving that port with no hose or anything, won't allow extra air into the intake? I'd assume it wouldn't as that's why the valve is there, but I don't know.

If I recall correctly, that port the hose connects to doesn't directly feed into the intake. The passage goes up to the AAC valve, then down into the intake. So capping the AAC port should seal that hose connection too.

Take off your AAC actuator & look at the intake...

to run the big bore tb, and the stock afm, just use the turbo air filter rubber. the one that goes thru the front rad support to the airbox. cut it to fit, works like a charm. if your feeling crafty, you can even add in the hose ports for the idle air bypass. i didnt do that cause i removed mine. but was thinking of adding it back in!! heres the proof!!!

Ok one last question, well two actually. First off what year maxima do I get the oil drain plug from for the vacuum canister port. Also does anyone have a recommendation for putting a clamp on the air regulator? The hose that runs from the TB to the Air Regulator, on the regulator side the way it's made becomes too cramped to get a hose clamp around the hose at least effectively.

NismoPick 12-10-2007 11:45 AM

Part one... to block off the vac port you mean? Any bolt that will fit... tho that isn't the proper nor effective way to do it.
Part two... just take the hose off, slide both clamps to the middle of the hose, re-install hose, and now there are two clamps (one for each end).

Bleach 12-10-2007 01:14 PM

if you're asking about the oil drain plugs that I used, it was for an Altima.
Or just go to the shelf were they sell the oil filters and you'll find oil drain plugs. Find the one that matches the specs I had posted. I think it was 12mm 1.25 thread

1st gen Altima is 1993-97

duowing 12-10-2007 08:39 PM

Thanks, I'm gonna go pick those up tomorrow.

duowing 12-12-2007 09:57 AM

Every L-series drain plug I can find is like 16.4 x 1.3 or something like that, I bought one, I'll try it out, and if it doesn't fit I'll take it back and see if they have a 16mmx1.25

does anyone have a close up picture of the 240 throttle body and spacer set up so i can see how people routed the hoses and all. i would appriciate that sooo much!! thanks guys. also what have people been doing with the pigtail that comes off of the stock 240 tps? the 83' 280ZX turbo tps connector connects directly to the 240sx tps correct? but there is that extra pigtail on the stock 240sx tps....

NismoPick 01-13-2008 07:54 PM

Did you check back on the other thread you asked this same question? https://www.zdriver.com/forums/showt...834#post209834

As for pics... check out my cardomain page or Google images... tons of pics there, and tons of info on the 60mm TB upgrade.

i've seen those but there not close enough to get a good enough idea of where and how things were routed.. thats just enough to know it was done. thanks though.

NismoPick 01-13-2008 08:17 PM

There's not much to be routed... Just connect the j-pipe or IC pipe to the throttle body, and connect the air regulator tube. Usually people bypass the coolant passage through the throttle body. Here's some more pics from my archive, but it's really quite simple.

DriftZ83 01-13-2008 08:21 PM

the air regulator tube is the little larger hose on the top of the throttle body correct? those are much better. thanks!

Yep... goes from the tb (stock) or spacer (60mm tb) to the air regulator.
