That'd be the one, Nismo.

Those are perhaps one of the greatest tools you can use on a troublesome 280ZX, or any 280ZX with minor problems. It's like an electrician uses a multimeter, you'd want that CD to work on your Zed.

Man, after saying that, I feel really bad that I don't even have one!

That is NOT a FSM. It's a parts reference. Like what the guys behind the counter in the parts dep. use to find the thing-a-ma-jigga you're looking for. It'll have exploded diagrams of assemblys with a name and part number for every single part on the car.

If you go back to the CD section, you'll find the FSM's.

Oh and FSM's on CD there are only like $50.00. Which is cheaper than that thing and much more worth your time. But they only cover each model year individually. But unless you've got more than one Z you don't need it to cover every year do you. That CD you mentioned in your post would be good for referencing parts between years though. I don't know if thats worth $70 to you though.

This is the one I got. Good CD to have, and yes, they ALSO sell parts reference CDs as well. Mine was for the '82, but the '81 seems to be cheaper for some reason.

PS: I went back and read jfairlady's WHOLE post and I guess he covered it. Sorry, J...

WOW!! I just noticed I got a name change!! Coolness!

Yea that was the CD I was referring to. It seems like a good buy since I plan on keeping the ZX for a while. Kinda pricey but like others have mentioned its an essential tool to have. One more question though, does the cd really help you alot? I dont wanna spend 70 and than just fix 1 or 2 things and than never be able to look at it for reference due to lack of information. Thanks.

Truthfully, I haven't had to utilize it much, but each person will get their own use out of it. I think the Haynes manual has quite a bit of good stuff in it also, and Chiltons is crap (IMO). I just happen to have the extra cash so I got it, plus the good thing is you can print page after page to take out with you to work on your vehicle, and if the paper gets screwed up, so what, you just re-print. I'm ultimately glad I got it, and the bonus is the Z commercials, but those CAN be downloaded as well. If money's tight, save it for parts and go get a Haynes. You can always get the CD later....

It really just depends on how well you know your way around cars. I would never invest in an FSM for this car, its just not worth it to me. I have a Haynes manual I keep around so I can reference specs like torque ratings and clearances and wiring diagrams. That to me is pretty much all I look for in a manual. I don't need a book to tell how to remove a bolt or where to find my alternator. If you do need to be told where to find certain parts and how to diagnose certain symptoms then a manual is for you. How much you think you already know will determine whether or not to get the FSM. The Haynes is more than adequate for the average person. If you absolutely must do everything yourself and are in the process of learning how, then get the FSM. But get something, at the very least, to reference specs and what not.

Did I just say that out loud?

yeah, I've heard that switching to carbon fiber LP's can take off at least .5 seconds on your quartermile times... that is, if you're lucky enough to have a lightweight record player (like this Fisher Price dandy here) in your car.

I had one of those Fisher price players back in the mid 80's! When you close the lid, it swings the arm over to the side. woot!
