wtf is this?!

Seem to be a valve of some kind but, my '80 didn't have it and dave said his '81 didn't either. This is a '79 2+2 btw. Oh and I still have oil being pushed through the valve cover vent hose is this normal? it's not much but there is a coating of oil inside the afm, throttle body, and a lot of thin sludge in the intake manifold. Car occasionally smokes when I get on it so I assume this is why. Is the only solution to install a catch can?

Edit: Wow LOL notice in the last picture the dead grass from my oil leak, gotta change out that oil pump gasket soon.

Damn internet, you being sarcastic or serious? As in 280Z or 280ZX without the X? In case it wasn't clear Im refering to the piece that unbolts from the underside of the TB, I'd just like to know it's purpose and where that black wire is supposed to go since I can't seem to find another black wire or really any extra wire in that area with a female connection.

Looks like the BCDD, which I beleive stands for Boost Controlled Decelerative Device. I believe its meant to keep the car from stalling and backfiring when the throttle is suddenly closed. Looks a little different then the ones I'm used to seeing though. But then again I've never seen that early of a models.

Im just trying my best to figure out what all these unhooked parts are, my car is running strong but, entirely too slow. Put it like this, my brother and I hang together and he drives a 1994 cavalier 5-speed 4cylinder so, Im more than disappointed that my power is being lost somewhere.

Its the BCDD from a 1980 California throttle body. I don't think the Federal 50 states cars were set up like that. You don't need it!!

Hmm, this sucks I wonder what other hack jobs are done to this car but, if the car is actually from california originally that explains why there is so little rust on it. I guess I'll start looking into a 240sx TB upgrade then.

Uhhh, California cars rust too. In fact, if it's a Cali car that spent any of its life on the coast it will be more rusted out than the worst "Snow Country" cars...

All I know is that majority of you guys are out west and up north, and I see tons of nice Zs from you. Down here it's seriously impossible to find a first gen z and almost as hard to find a second gen and I've only seen one turbo model second gen in my life. All our Zs are in the junkyard halfway rusted away. You may have one coast out there but, we have nothing but coast
