why does the fan keep blowing ?

Hi everyone, I recently fixed up a 79' 280ZX back to stock condition. Twice now I have taken it out on the track, Laguna Sece and Sears Pt. (Infinion), on club days. Each session is apprx. 30 min.. When I come in, off of the track, and turn the engine off, the blower fan the has the duct that comes up and over the valve cover and apperently blows on the injector rails, stays on. Even with the key turned off. Each time, after 5 to 10 min.s, if I turn the key to the "on" position, without turning on the motor, and turn it off again, the fan turns off. Anyone have any ideas whats going on? Thanks in advance, Kurt :dancing:

This fan cools the injectors and fuel rail. I'm not sure if it's hooked up to a temp sensor somewhere, or if it's simply on a timed relay. Several times I've gone drifting in the local K-Mart parking lot and parked the car after a good 20-minute run, only to come out an hour later and find the fan still blowing. While this is bad for my battery (which my Z eats like Roseanne scarfs chocolate cake ... my baby likes blowing them up!), I think it's good for the injectors, and / or fuel temps in general.

Think of it like an electric fan on a newer car, or perhaps the oil cooler fan on a heavy-duty truck - just because the engine is off, doesn't mean the oil or coolant is cold yet. In fact, I had a '90 Pontiac Sunbird Turbo that I would run at the local strip on Saturday nights, and after a couple runs, I would park and turn off the car. The relay for the fan was bad, so it turned off with the ignition. When I would start up the car a few minutes later, the coolant was actually hotter than when the car was running.
