What is Essential?

Hey all. I was wondering today: What vacuum systems are "optional"?

By this, I mean, which ones aren't needed for engine performance... basically everything that won't KILL my MPG? I'd like to get VA antique vehicle plates and stop having to go to state inspection (emission controls go out the window). I could probably remove the Cat then, too. All this would reduce the chance of vacuum leaks for me, I'd say.

For starters, the guy who owned this puppy before me already closed off the metal tube that runs from the header to the EGR valve.... so no EGR?

Alright thanks NP. this could work.

I just wish I could TOTALLY junk that freakin purge canister. is there any way to connect the signal hose that runs from the canister to the dist to "something else" so that vacuum advance still works?

I'm okay with gas fumes, just not under the hood, like someone else said.

well I wee now that the real important thing is the constant flow tube that is being sucked by the intake manifold. the engine backfires and can't get enough air if it's plugged...
