Update: Bad Injector?

So I'm pretty sure it was my trying to be "Proactive" that is now causing my mysery.

I put 6 NEW injectors in and that's when it all started.

(read the "Valve Adjustment" Thread for more details)

Anyway, I went over this POS with a fine toothed comb today.

Conclusion: Number 3 injector is not spraying.

Checked all 6 with the NOID light, they are all getting the signal to fire. Plugs are all firing... yet, pulling the number 6 plug wire does nothing (Checked to make sure it's sparking first and replaced cap, rotor, wires and plugs... IT's GETTING SPARK).

All the plugs look like I'm running LEAN for the first time ever... Which probably means that my NEW AFM is working correctly and that all those other things I replaced are also working. This also pretty much rules out the "Bad harness or ECU" theory. I'm just only running on 5 cylinders. So, I don't have time to pull the damned rail again today and get to the parts store to swap out the injector... They're closed on Sunday... I work all week... So it looks like next saturday the damned rail comes off again.

On a side note... Everything else really seems to be working right. Even did a compression test on my 250K motor that has NEVER had the head off and it was scary... All six were between 175-178... That's CRAZY!

So, I guess next week I will know for sure after I swap out that injector.

No doubt Rod, great to hear. It is kind of ironic, when you told me before. About saying just because it is a new part, doesn't mean it is good. Looks like that is the case here my friend. Glad to see you kept your head, and did some more investigating. Good luck once again.

That's awesome compression Rod. Take care of that motor.

It may be time for a PAllnet fuel rail...

Easy on, easy off, no muss, no fuss.

It should be.... it doesn't make any difference w/ emissions.

Hmmmmmm. Then maybe I'll stop screwing around with this one and just get the Pallnet.

Werd. I believe all the Pallnet rails have a center port, so you can still use the cold start valve on the n/a.

But, will I be able to use the 6 brand new injectors I just bought, and will all my existing smog stuff still have a place to go?... (Sorry, not too familiar with these aftermarket rails)

Rod.

PS

I saw that there are JSK rails on EBAY again...

What's the difference?

Fuel rail has no affect on emissions so no CARB approval should be necessary.

If you send a note to Pete, he'll make you one to fit your particular injectors if he doesn't have one already in stock.

The only practical difference between JSK and PAllnet rails is that I like Pete better...

There shouldn't be any smog components physically connected to the fuel rail. You just connect up your injectors & pressure reg to the new rail.

JSK's are a lil more expensive, but somewhat "better looking." They also offer the o-ring style for injector upgrading. Pallnet is more worth the cost.

When I installed my JSK fuel rail I got at least 50 horsepower....

although, that may have something to do with the new turbo engine I put in at the same time...

Well,

Pallnet is going through some "moving" drama so I didn't have time to wait and order a Pallnet rail. But... I've gotten removing the stock rail down to a pretty quick process.

Swapped out number 3 and number 6 injectors today and... (you know, the BRAND NEW ONES THAT I JUST GOT!!!)

CAR IS AWESOME AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

Runs on all 6 again and does everything it's supposed too. I'm guessing that it will actually pass smog when I go to test it on Monday!!!

For the first time since I have owned it, it doesn't seem to be running too rich.

It's great!

I did... I pulled the whole rail off, saw that 3 and 6 were bone dry and yanked them off the rail. Took them to the parts store and swapped them for two more "Pythons" and voila! All is right with the world again. The only sucky part is, that it's near impossible to re-install the rail with the injectors attached to it so I had to remove all 6... then put them in the manifold and then put the rail back on but... No biggie. It's done now

Let's just say that if it doesn't pass smog now... It's going to suffer a violent and untimely death at the hands of a maniac
