Update on my Z

Finally have some news about the cause of my oil leak. The guys at GT Motorsports discovered that while in the process of removing the turbo kit, the upper oil pan didn't look right. Someone had somehow screwed it up at one point and decided to try to weld it back in place. This someone is Dynocomp, who did my initial install. I can't believe this crap!
He said it is a really crappy attempt at welding, and he's sending me a picture sometime today. I'm happy that there is nothing wrong with my engine (I think), but I can't believe a shop would do that and not tell me! Once I get the full story I'll have to call Dynocomp and see if they confess.

i don't understand why all shops feel it's necessary to lie about everything.

Ok, got the pix. Ugly. Still waiting on the possible causes. If anyone has a picture of a "healthy" oil pan connection, please post.

more............ they must have really hit that thing with some force to require it to be welded back in place. note the metal beads from the sloppy weld job - can't believe i didn't notice it before.

The splatter is because they didn't use any shielding gas when the welded it.

turns out the threading was cracked as they tried to force in the T-bar that is used to divert oil between the pressure sensor and the turbo. they then attempted to rethread the pan and reinforced it with welding. the original install shop remembered doing it, and he agreed to pay for the repair (at least most of it). i wish he'd told me, though. so a new upper pil pan is going in, hopefully that will be the end of my saga.

Kudos to Richard, glad he didn't lie to you! DO you know if that is where the oil was coming from before you brought your car to GT?

I did notice lots of oil from that area before - I will still have them do a compression test afterwards to make sure.

Well, I got my stock Z back yesterday. Damn it's slow. But I like the sound of the exhaust - kinda missed it. I'll probably be selling it soon, it still has some upgraded parts on it:

JWT Clutch
Stoptech rotors, brake lines
Nismo pads
Track model LSD
Stillen front bumper
Privat Fahren 18" wheels with 275/245 Eagle F1 GSD3 tires

looking to get about $20k....

hey Mike - what's the number of your vinyl guy? I want to put a small "For Sale" and my number on the back and front windshields.
