Ultra Copper test!!

At 2:00 p.m. on the 7th of june I put the Ultra Copper on my exhaust flange, it has been the full 24 hours that Permatex says it takes to fully cure. I am using the Ultra Copper as the gasket by itself. I literally put a quarter inch bead around both protruding pipes on the lower flange then around all the stud holes and bolted that puppy up an let it cure overnight. It squished out nicely and I am sure it sealed pretty good...have a look. I just wonder how long this will last, i am kinda doing this to test this stuff out to see if I want to use it on other parts of the exhaust. The longest I had anything else work was 3 days.

hahaha...cool...what does it turn onto when it hardens???
if its rubbery...you know how thats gonna go...
you dont have a cover plate for your flywheel?!?!?

thxone Jun 8, 2006 12:40 PM

Yeah it turns to hard rubber...feels very stiff but slightly flexable, if that makes sense. Cover Plate???? Should there be one??? It is an auto tranny that the car lot I got it from put in...please don't tell me it's not right!

thxone Jun 8, 2006 12:48 PM

yup there is a plate..ill go take a pic of it in the garage...it goes between the engine and the tranny...seals everything so no ROCKS!!! can fly in your flywheel!!!! ahaha

thxone Jun 8, 2006 01:19 PM

i duno tho did they come in auto's? probably thats pretty open!
and yes im holding up my tranny with a piece of rope...!

thxone Jun 8, 2006 01:26 PM

Oh dear lord, yeah I am gonna have to do some research and see what shakes loose, thatnks man.

Skully Jun 8, 2006 01:27 PM

no problems, the plate goes onto the engine...THEN you put the flywheel on if i remember correctly...i havent done it in a while..hehehe

yeah it does....they probably forgot it and didnt wanna take the shit off to put it on, or didnt have one at all?
when i was going clutch on my brothers 300 I put everything on, torqued it, and saw this plate laying there...then i realised i forgot to put the damn plate on...so i had to take the flywheel and pressure plate and all that off to put the damn cover on...

With the automatic, you do have a bit of leeway before the snout of the converter bottoms in the front pump.

jfairladyz Jun 8, 2006 02:24 PM

Thxone, if that stuff actually works that will be the first product I've seen that could actually seal that area of the exhaust. I've tried pretty much everything I could find and nothing has worked for more then a day or two max. Some stuff just blows right out within minutes (or I should say, most stuff does).

As far as the auto's go, yes, they definitely had the plate there to seal up the trans.

mabe cut some tin out and plate it up ..making a cover shouldnt be that hard ..
it will just take some time :)

jfairladyz Jun 8, 2006 02:50 PM

^^thats a good suggestion. As long as it keeps debris outta there. Any home depot or Lowes type place will have something cheap that you can use. Just cut it to shape and bolt it on there.

thxone Jun 8, 2006 03:00 PM

I like the idea of the tin gaurd for the tranny, also the idea came to me just after I read that, couldn't I also use a fine steel mesh like they use for aftermarket grill inserts? Who knows, I am sure the tin would work better.

As for the Ultra Copper, I am gonna keep a close eye on it. I drove it pretty hard today and it is still perfect. A couple of runs into the 4500-5500rpm range and it still looks just like the pics above. I am still using just one stud to hold it all together. If there is a test of this stuff, I am sure this is it.

Hey buddy, is this an old pic or a new one? Either way, if you are looking for a spring clip for one of your rocker arms take a look at this!!! I'm here for ya Skully! I think its for the #3 valve...looks like an intake spring...could be for the diffusalator valve

thxone i think i got a auto cover plate, ill have to check, and guys thats the silicon i use on my intake/exhaust gasket to help it a bit, that stuff is great and is actually meant to do just what thxone did, i put a thin smear on the gasket, but in his situation, it may just work, that stuff is great.
