Stuck wastegate

Today i went out to my lake home to start the z.The car was running fine, except i couldn't here the turbo spooling up.I took the car out for a short drive and no boost. The autometer boost gauge is showing boost.I was pressed for time and had a dentist appt.

Anyway, with the car running.I didn't see the wastegate moving.I assume that it's stuck.I noticed some rust on the lever where the pin go's in.Do you think that's the problem?Like i said.I didn't have much time to look into the problem.

With the car off and completely cooled down (first thing in the morning) you can disconnect the actuator arm and then see if the wastegate lever moves freely. There should be very little resistance.

You'll only see the arm move if you reach full boost. Revving the engine in neutral won't get you there.

also, why do you say you have no boost when your Autometer gauge does show boost?

how would you see the wastegate move? it wont move or spool really at all unless the car is under load. if the gauge says it's boosting then it is. guages don't lie. unless you meant the autometer gauge IS NOT showing boost. and hear the turbo spooling? i hope that meant while driving. but like i said you'll never see the wastegate move unless your magical or on a dyno.

stupid bleach beating me to it! and by 2 minutes? thats alot... didnt think i typed for that long.

When i took it out for a drive it was showing boost.I think the turbo is getting some boost, but not the full amount.

Should only be about 6.7psi stock. What boost pressure do you get?

Is there anything else you're not telling us? Does it drive the same, feel slow, pop or backfire? Any issues at idle?

yeah whats your autometer guage read? its probably fine, honestly you shouldn't hear much spool on a low boost turbo like that. might just be a little slow from sitting or something simple like that but doesn't sound like you have a boosting problem. and BTW turbo's usually get LOUDER when they go bad.

Sorry i didn't respond back sooner. My boost gauge reads the normal 6lbs of boost. The car was sitting for a year. The wastegate won't move with the engine off. Also has fresh gas.I did adjust my timing with out a timing light and with out the tps connected.I think that could be the problem.

Yes,but the turbo isn't kicking in.The car is lacking power.Should the waste gate move freely when wiggling by hand?

If it's boosting to 6psi... then it's boosting to 6psi... and the turbo is working...

Did you adjust the timing correctly? What's it set to?

I adjusted the timing by ear, without a timing light. The car was sitting for a year.I had alot of problems with getting spark.Figured that out.Anyway, I know the timing needs to be set properly.I'll post a video of the engine running tomorrow.

problem ^^^^

NEVER adjust the timing without the light, you probably retarded it WAY to much. if a car is sitting its timing isn't going to change. your turbo is fine, 6lbs is 6lbs that means its boosting and is fine. you need to adjust your timing right and probably give it a tune up new plugs wires cap and rotor if its been sitting that long. if you haven't already that is
