hey... got another problem.. next to my house theres speed bumbs... and then when my front wheels goes over it and it bounces... my car stalls.. and i gotta hit the gass so it doesnt.. knwo whats the problem?!?!

I think you've got a bad electrical connection somewhere. That would explain this and the other problems you're having.

hahahah.. yea... i push in the cluch... i looked all over the place and i cant seem to find any loose connection... can it be like a tranny or cluch not grabbing problem?

its true, i hit a speed bump at about 60MPH and it felt like ihtting a small pot hole at 15.

The reason I said loose connection (refering to electrical connection) is because of the OTHER problems he's having with his car as well. They tie into whats going on with the speedbumps.

My Z used to die when I'd hit a bump or pothole or even a rough patch of road, all because the IM connector was loose.

with the car on a flat surface jack the front end up, while runing, don't get yourself killed doing it either, but then drop the front end fast, about the height of the speed bump and see what happens.

try if you have them the glass type fuses, they become brittle and old then can make funky connections, my car did wierd stuff like that, everytime i hit a bump my heater would stop. i took the fuse out and gave it a jingle and you could see it loosing contact. just a thought

my friends said it might be a ground problem.. like what a few of you said.. lose connection.. they told me to go get new ground wires and wire my engin to my chassey.. or try to make more ground or something

Go around the engine compartment and make sure everything is nice and tight before you go and start buying stuff though. Could just be that a plug came loose or something along those lines. Also rust can kill a ground. When the chassis starts rusting at a grounding location it can spread to the bolts and start corroding the connector and you lose continuity. But the fact that yours has to do with vibration and impact I would say something is loose.

I didn't read through all the posts so I apologize if someone else already suggested this but, are you sure your battery is mounted down securely? The previous owner of my current Z used to have problems with the car stalling when he made right turns, finally he realized that the battery wasn't mounted down and it was arcing against the hood while mid turn.

Holy crap I can't believe I didn't think of that I have to keep my battery bungee cabled down cause the exact same thing used to happen to me. The arc actually burnt a hole right through the hood frame. I've also had the battery tip over and take out the number 6 spark plug wire. I was also talking with another guy that had a 280zx a while back and he said his battery actually caused a fire from that arcing. Now I keep the battery tied down and keep something over the top of it just in case (right now it's the spare tire tool kit bag )

damnnn... my battery isnt hold down or anything.. its just sitting there... i'll go try that right now and see if that was it or not

nope.. still does it.. and i found out another thing.. it stalls when i hit the break really hard.. like to do a hard stop.. it stalls... so it might be a eletrical problem?

Just make sure you use a Group 34 battery and ONLY a group 34. The Group 24 and Group 35 are a full INCH taller than the Group 34 and will put your battery terminals dangerously close to the hood. The auto parts store will claim the Group 24 is an acceptable substitute. Don't believe them!

I always recommend a Group 34 Optima Red Top and it comes with a battery terminal cover that covers the entire top.

Obviously, you should make sure your battery is tied down. As has been mentioned, more car fires have resulted from batteries tipping over than just about every other cause.

in the rallyzx (whats left of it) the stock battery tie down broke off and the battery arched across the hood and basicly burnt a giant hole through the hood.

For the Optima, that's true. But the Gel Cel's typically have 2 to 3 times the life expectancy of standard batteries, so their 2 to 2.5 times price over normal is still in the same price range.

Even if you can't get a Gel Cel, you should get a Group 34 for it's lower height.

Not neccesarily a huge expense if it's going to last you longer, and actually be safer and not be a threat to your car's hood.

Yeah I've got a hole right through the frame of the hood. I'll snap a pic tomorrow and put it up to show what an arcing battery can do to those who don't have theirs tied down yet

As far as which battery I have I'm still running the same battery I've had since I bought this car 2-3 years ago. I think it's about time for a new one though. It wont hold a charge like it used to and it cranks a little slower than it should. Starting to wear down.
