Rear oil seal or oil pan?
Rear oil seal or oil pan?
Quick question:
I'm leaking a lot of oil, and the underside of my engine is the wettest...
If the main rear oil seal is the culprit, would I see wetness mostly there around the bolts to the tranny, or somewhere else? I know replacing that seal would be a little bit of work, but I'm prepared for it.
I'm pretty sure the oil pan is leaking as well. that's a pretty easy swap, right?

If the engine has been leaking for a while, it's probably got muck caked all over... Give it a good degrease job. Then you can more easily see where the leak starts.
Rear main seal leaks will mainly drain from the trans bell housing, but can be pushed all over if it's bad enough, especially when it hits the flywheel.
The oil pan gasket is not an easy job. There are a few 10mm bolts right above the motor mounts that are difficult to remove / install. Several people have talked about it on here (do a search). I believe you need to use an engine hoist to pick up the engine an inch or two for clearance.
