Rb30?

Has anyone here heard the rumor about fitting a RB30 head to a L24 block? I heard it's pretty close to bolt on with only a few minor mods. But that was just something I heard. Just wanna know if anyone else heard about this or can disprove it.

I don't know about the L24, but I've heard of people taking the RB25 head and mating it to the RB30 block. Check some of the Australian Skyline sites, most likely one of them has posted a how to on the hybrid motor.

Haven't heard anything specific on the possibility but then haven't heard of it being done here either. Thinking that if it could be done it would have been done, a lot

Will ask around though.

You make a good point. Probably just a falicy. Thanks guys. I'm trying to get in contact with OS Giken about their dual cam head. Haven't heard back from them though.

I don't think the RB30 came out of the skyline, not positive though. It's an older engine too, I think they stopped putting those in cars a while ago.

I've tried finding an RB30, but I can't find one anywhere. They're not too popular with importers because of their age and they were pretty low tech; non turbo only and SOHC. That's why the head swap is so popular on this block. But like I said, good luck finding one. I don't how it is down there in Australia though, that seems to be where all the talk about this mod comes from.

Scratch that, it did come in a Skyline, the R31. As an alternative to the 4 cylinder in the R31. Still wasn't turbo though.

The RB30 was also fitted to the Australian Holden Commodore, there was a turbo version available in that car which incidentially has a cult following, still. The turbo had a five speed Getrag gearbox.

The R31 also had an RB20ET. (SOHC turbo) I sold one of those engines. Not very high demand...

RB20DET, was that the 4 cylinder? I know the R31 with the four was turbo, but not the 6. Nissan also put the RB30 in another Nissan, but I can't remember what it was.

RB series are all inline six. The SR is the 4cyl.

The RB20ET is an inline six 1998cc single turbo SOHC.

I think it was a C series motor, if I remember correctly. CA maybe. I don't know, I'll look it up. I'm talking about the 4 by the way.

I have an RB30 engine sitting at my place I was wondering if it would be benificial to put it into my 1980 280zx? it is a NA engine but went quite well in the car it came out of. Does anybody know if this would be worth while? and there is an RB30det which is the turbo one...

It would definitely be worth while if you put some lo-comp. pistons and slap a turbo on that thing.
A little more complicated than that, but you get the point. I was gonna ask if you wanted to sell it, but then I saw your location. I don't think I could afford the shipping on that thing.

Haha... I am on a tiny little island far far away... which sucks cause i have heaps of various car parts and no one can afford the freight to buy them The amount of money the conversion would cost would probably be better placed on rebuilding my motor i think...

If you hold onto that motor for another 6 months, I'll take it off your hands. Right now all my money is going into getting my business started. Is it a complete motor? I've been trying to find one for a future build.

I'm gonna be making Carbon Fiber parts for the ZX. It's Zspec Garage. I got some posts on here, and a site up(www.zspecgarage.com). It doesn't have much on it yet though. No products up yet. Soon though, very soon.

You gotta PM coming your way.

For a full CF hood (no fiberglass BS), I'm trying to shoot for under $500 USD. I'll be making all sorts of parts too. Basically anything stock appearing off the body, and I'm working on some custom designs for hoods and bodykits right now. I'm gonna be working on a wide body kit too. I'm pretty much ready to go, with one exception: I've had four shop locations fall through on me over the last couple of months and one financial setback a month ago(finally getting over that, family member in need of some college tuition). I've got another place I'm waiting on (it's being leased), and then I'll be starting production. Buildings are hard to come by out here.
