pictures of my car are in the photo gallery

pictures of my car are in photo gallery. its a 1979 280zx (GL i believe) with a slight upgrade in the engine compartment. a chevy 355 w/home ported heads, mild cam, headers, 2 1/2 inch dual exhaust to glasspacks (yes its loud) 700r4 trans with shift kit and 2400 stall converter(or 2600 cant recall right now for sure), and a b&m ratchet shifter. now i just need to save up some funds(LOTs of funds) for.......suspension, rear diff, rims/tires, radiator, paint....the list goes on.... and on let me know what you guys think

Quite a funky exhaust setup ya got there. If you got some diff headers you might save 10+ feet of exhaust pipe. Looks good!

thanx, i have plans to get the special made headers from jtr, i also want to swap to power rack and pinion at the same time, as my dad "rigged" a nissan stanza manual rack and pinion to fit, but he knows nothing about suspension geometry so im sure theres **** all out of alighnment....ughh....dads....I already have power rack and pinion for 81-83 cars that is going to go in soon, is the crossmember from an 81-83 nessessary? i know ive read somewhere to grab it, but theres not much for 280zx here in north dakota junkyards...(and no where not ALL hicks up here).....

oh yea, anyone know if a "shift kit" in an auto will need to be broken in gently? (700r4/4l60) also heard this somewhere...

Cool. You have the perfect exhaust for twin turbos. Just sayin.

yes, doing the exhaust that way has pretty much forced me to think about a twin turbo setup....but...that could be way far down the road... i built the engine with Nos in mind, hypereutectic pistons should hold for about 75-150 shot i figure....which should be plenty fun for my intentions....daily driver....haha plus nos is a much cheaper/simpler install and could be taken off and sold easily. but nos is also down the road aways...suspension is my next project. Ill take a few more pics in some daylight today hopefully.

oh yea side note- found out that when my dad relocated the battery to the trunk he just ran positive cable the length of the car but not the neg. he just grounded it to the floor of the trunk so last night i ran a ground cable the length of the car. this should help start my engine as it has barely been able to crank over

You probably should but I never do. The 700R4 is practically bullet proof. What stall converted did you use? How much horsepower are you putting to it?

Im using a 2400 stall converter and about 280hp maybe 300, idk.. it takes of fine under light throttle and shifts at about 1300-1800 into every gear firmly. i havent really stomped on it enough to 'hard' shift into 3rd, but 2nd gear comes fast and is always a hard shift.... trans has about 500 on rebuild(same as motor) and breaking them in is tough(mainly because i cant stomp it everywhere)

Hell yeah! Nice slick top she's coming right along. I dig the headers, My buddy did the same thing with his 87 300zx, except he has a big Ol' T6 with a external waste gate sitting behind the radiator. Keep up the good work!

You should be fine then. a 700R4 with a shift kit can (if re-built correctly) handle up to 450hp.
