P-90a head lash springs ?

Hears the problem im coming across on my 1982 280zxt 2+2 it has the p-90a head right... and on the 1983 280zxt 2+2 has the p-90a head also..

But hears the big question when i took of the valve cover on the 82 and on the 83 i noticed somthing right away on my 82 it looks like there is 2 little springs on the valve guides ? lash springs ?

But on the 83 none of thouse springs are present ? do i need them on the 83 ? if there not on there will that cause a problem ? is that why the car will start but not gain any speed ?

I thought only the 83's had the P90A... which would explain why your 82 & 83 look different...

Well I know for a fact that a 82' has a P90 not P90a. Is it a late 82'? Does it actually say P90a on it???

For Christs sake! ...

If it has adjustable valves, it's not a freaking P90A!

If it's an '82, It's not a freaking P90A

Get on with your life already.

Rod

P.S.

This is taken directly from the 280ZX Specifications thread:

CYLINDER HEAD
Datsun used 3 1/2 different head casting for the 280zx. I'll explain the half part.
I'll break it down by engine code:
N42: N47 (79-80) diamond exhaust ports with liners
F54: P79 (81-83 non turbo) round exhaust ports with liners
F54: P90 (81-82 turbo) square exhaust ports, no liners
F54: P90A (83 turbo) same as P90 but this head used hydraulic lifters.
All are aluminum non-crossflow design.
Valve Diameters: Intake:1.73" (44mm) Exhaust: 1.38" (35mm)
Valve Length (N47): Intake: 4.53" (115.2mm) Exhaust: 4.57" (116.0mm)
Valve Length (P79, P90/A): Intake: 4.45" (113.1mm) Exhaust: 4.48" (113.9mm)

There are actually some P90a that have solid lifters. I think they were on the late '82s. I am positive they exsist, because I have one!! Not very common, though.

those springs are to keep the valve set in one place only, and that is against the cam to help prevent wear. the heads that require manual valve adjustment must have these springs, i dont know aboot the p90 head, maybe someone with some experience with that head will know

not having the springs may wear the cam out a bit faster, cause the rocker would slap the cam instead of following.

My '81 had a P90A. That P90A came out of my '82 parts car. I can only assume it came out of an '83 before that. Theres no chapter in the specifications book that says in the 20+ years these cars have been on the road nobody has swapped out the cylinder head on his '82.

But yes, ONLY the 1983 280zx Turbo came with the P90A from the factory. Atleast thats how it was is North America. I dont know how it worked in Japan or Europe.
