New Fusible Links?

Ok, I was looking at my box for my fusible links, and it looks like at one point or another, the link for the ignition crapped out or the wire broke or something and it looks like it was soldered together, the thing makes contact, but I'm not sure exactly how well it's getting contact and may be part of my issues. Anyway I was wondering where can I buy new fusible links, or what part number am I looking for? Are the fusible links, just the wires or are they those white plastic pieces that fit in as well?

You should be able to find fusible links at most auto parts, if not you can find out the rating for the fuse links, and just wire in a fuse holder in it's place. That way if it blows, you just swap in a 15-30 cent fuse that you can find anywhere.

that's not a bad idea actually. I'm still not the best with wiring and stuff like that, so I'm wondering how do you find the rating for the fuse links?

This is a good read: http://www.zccne.org/tech-docs/fused-link-2-fuse.pdf Written for a 280z... same principles apply for the 280zx.

That's a good link, seeing as it is a pain to get a hold of new fusible links I think I'm going to do that, or at least just get the generic fuse holders. Also by the way what's the point of those plastic casings for the fusible links?

Anyway I know this picture is crappy quality and I kinda tore the other end off, but this is what the fusible link for the EFI circuit looked like under my car. The other end was missing half the curled over piece of metal so it wouldn't attatch as snugly.

Looks like speaker wire was soldered in.

By the way, will 280Z fusible links work on a 280ZX?

As far as I know most fusible links are just color coded based on the amperage rating. I would think that as long as the fuse links from the 280Z were the same color it would work fine.

I have a similar problem, I fried up my fusible link for acc. power. I might as well be a 9 year old when it comes to electrical work, I have next to no clue what I'm doing. It's kind of sad really. I can swap the engine and suspension but I can't figure out what to do when a link goes bad. Anyone know the rating for these wires, or where to get some more?

WASNT ME!

hehe how many spots? I looked at the wiring diagram, and looks like 3 go into one, for 6 total, but could expand to 8 and make each its own fuse..
ignition relay, fuse block and alternator share one dont they? i might be reading this diagram wrong lol (looks like i was, looks like 3 go into one but its a plug and they are all separate, so still 6)
