which muffler?

The deeper sound comes from a straight through design. Dynomax has some good choices. A lot of Flowmaster mufflers are chambered and tend to be louder and more raspy. I have a Flowmaster and I do not recomend getting one for a Z.
I was just thinking about this while looking at my exhaust (or lack thereof) yesterday ... here's what I'm thinking ...
-3", from the turbo back, a Magnaflow high-flow cat, possibly a resonator, and out a Magnaflow StreetSeries canister (3" inlet / outlet, polished)
-I want something loud, but not illegally so ... I'd like it to sound deep and raspy, but not "farting through a Kazoo" -type rasp ...
-Nothing TOO flashy - no watermelon-sized rice-burner tip or muffler sticking out from under my car ...
-Someone told me that 3" was too big for a Z, something about too little exhaust flow to need 3" - any truth to this? I'm not thinking so, as I can shoot 5' flames out the tailpipe if I hold a spark plug to it ...
sounds like good flow to me.
-the turbo will make a decent muffler anyway, would I even need a muffler to keep it legal-sounding?
-Anyone with a piped, turbo Z that can answer the previous question?
-Can you make it across all of Colorado on dirt?
-How many powdered donuts does your local police force consume on a weekly basis?
-When will my website be done?
-How many more questions will I ask?

-Magnaflow sounds fine
-The raspy sound comes from smaller displacement cylinders. A muffler can't perform miracles. It won't sound quite like a 4-banger, but you'll also never get a V8 sound out of the L28
-Good
-3" is fine for a turbo running 10psi or more. Did you actually test your flamethrower idea, or is that just a guess? I don't believe it
-the turbo does muffel the sound. Still use a muffler. Its actually illegal to change the factory exhaust, so don't ask if it will sound legal. Most all our cars are illegal even if they are fairly quiet
-not me
-no. Eventually you will have to cross over Hwy 70 or 25
-12-15 dozen
-most likely, never
-that remains to be seen

Well we just put a Magnaflow muffler on a mildly built 300ZX N/A, Headers and srtaight pipe to the Muffler. I have to say its TOOOOOOO LOUD, and it has the coffee can sound(Not too impressed). However this is a wide open exhaust and there is no restrictions anywhere. So the fix for this is to get some type of resonator to make it sound better. To answer one of Drifto's many questions, I ran my 300ZXT with out a muffler(Turbo Only) and it was very loud! Sounded like a Jet when I got on the gas and backfired like hell when I let off of it. I have on of those Import mufflers on there right now with the Dual tips that turn up. It was free get off my back
Anyway it sounds better now but still sounds like a jet at 15PSI
AS far as a Flowmaster I would love to try one on my car. I think it would sound better on a N/A though. I'LL put one on my 81 280ZX and let you guys know how it sounds!

I have the MSA aluminzed exhaust. If you have any mechanical skills at all just build your own and either weld it up yourself or have a muffler shop do it. I like mine except for the fact that they gave me a muffler that does not fit under the car. I wish I had just bought the tubing and made it myself. I think it would have been cheeper and it would have fit
Which Model# on the flowmaster? Reason for asking is I bought my 79 280zx and it already has a flowmaster but dont know if it is the right one. I dont think it has a catalytic convertor either and am in the process of redoing my exhaust but want to know if I can keep the flowmaster or not.
