Me thinks somethings not quite right . . .

After I got home from work today, I decide to dive into taking the old leaky turbo out and put the rebuilt one in. The guy I bought it from started to do this and lucky for me he labeled everything. I started poking around to see what he had already taken off and what I needed to take off. It appears to be that I only need to unbolt the turbo from the exhaust mani. I started to unbolt it, I got one and was have trouble with the others. I brought over the rebuilt turbo to compare where the bolts are to see if I can firgure out an easier way to unbolt them. That is when I notice the turbos aren't the same.

What kind of turbos do I have?

It looks like the rebuilt one will not fit in the car, it also looks smaller.

Also is this a stock down pipe?

Thanks for the help guys.

How about more, and better pics of the spare turbocharger? What are the markings on the spare turbo's compressor housing? It looks like a Saab or Audi turbo... clocked different, diff downpipe, diff wastegate...

And yes... that is the stock downpipe.

It says Nissan Motors on the side along with Garrett Pat# 3.058.787.

I googled 3.058.787

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&s...us&q=3.058.787

I translated this site:
http://www.weekendhobby.com/offroad/...on.asp?ID=8173

It says it is from a Z18 . . . .

Here are some pics

The pic below says " 063 (on top) 4 602

I tried 063 4 602 on Garrett's site and googled it and came up with nothing.

So is the spare smaller than your stock one? They actually look the same, just that someone reclocked the spare. I was thinking maybe it's from a Z31T... but those are all water cooled.

I looked through some of my turbocharger pics to compare... I'm pretty sure that spare you have is a stock turbo, but it's been reclocked & has a custom downpipe. You can reclock it by taking off the wastegate bracket, loosen the other bolts around the edge, & rotate the compressor housing to match your other one.

EDIT... oh, and you have an adjustable wastegate rod. That means you can manually adjust your boost.

Sorry should have asked in the above post: Is it the normal lefty loosey (more boost) righty tighty (less boost)?

I guess that would depend on how you're looking at it. Better said: Shortening the rod increases boost, Lengthening the rod decreases boost. It doesn't take much to up the boost... so adjust after you can test it on the car w/ an accurate boost gauge. Or if you have a pressure gun.

The factory boost gauge is not an "accurate boost gauge" BTW

yup!
But when I have my 20's on there I have to run higher pressure. 50psi!
Lower profile tires need more air.

That's a non-water cooled turbo from an early Z31 but someone put the wastegate housing from a 280zx turbo on it.

At least that's what it looks like.

Should just require a re-clocking and undo the 4 bolts for the elbow and put yours on...........and put your wastegate actuator on it.
