many assumptions..we all know what they do

Ok, I've said it before and ill say it again (in a very apologetic manner) I used to be one of those "if it aint 'Merikan its crap" But during those times i learned a lot about making cars go fast..so..fast forward to today and i was thinking about how much stuff that works on small block chevy's would work on a L28. Things like having the deck and head milled, longer connecting rods, bigger intake and exhaust..things of this nature..i may be getting a bit pre-mature since my z doesn's even run yet but tis jsut a though...also, hows the gear ratios on the automatics? It's been my experience that 5th isnt tall enough, or that the rear end is geared too low, etc etc. I'm just throwing this stuff out there because im at work and IT is a very slow between projects, so i have a lot of think time.

All those motor mods are pretty basic for any motor... not just a Chevy 350.

I think it's research time. There's lots of info all over the internet about modifying your Z. Start w/ these books:

Also... for gear ratio info (and hands on comparing diff setups) check this: http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/

Lastly.... 99.99999999999% of all the basic info and mods of Z cars have been extensively covered. Just gotta search out the info you are looking for.

LOL...I dont even know why i asked that...I have a 5spd and i was wondering if it felt like it should be a 6, or if 5th is tall enough to really be a cruising gear.

when they had 4 speed manuals, they were still ok for cruising. not quite as nice, but, they would make it across the country. i think that 5 is just fine.
a bad ratio is: my midget would tack 4000 to go 60... with a geared down diff

Koo, i had a 4runner that was geared so low that maybe a 6th and 7th gear and not having a 4:10 rear end would have helped out alot. Since i still have yet to drive my Z i was wondering what i can expect.
