Fuel Injector Help

Hey everyone,

I just recieved a 280ZX from my uncle. It has been in his garage for a couple of years. Its turns out that during the inspection, a fuel injetor was leaking. I heard about a factory recall. I was wondering if anyone new if it still applied or was for a 1980 280ZX. If it does not apply, I would like to ask if anyone new the procedure to replacing this particular Z. Thanks for all of your help guys.

Collector Kid.

Do you wanna replace the Z or the injector? Your best bet is to get a Haynes manual. They're not too expensive, they're easy to follow, and they have pictures!!! You can find one at your local parts store or on e-bay. I live by that book...for the most part.

if your gonna replace its its a tedious job...you hafta dismantle almost everything off the top just to pull the rail off and take out the bad injector.....

Its the VG30 that had the injector recall. That is the engine in the 80's 300ZX and Maxima.

im in the same position. How would I go about getting the fuel out of the rail and the injectors so it doesn't leak all over the manifold?

To get the fuel out, you start your engine, and pull the fuel pump relay out and let your engine die. after its dead try and start it a few more times and the fuel line will be pretty empty. the relay is under the hood by the underhood light, cant remember which one exactly. dont start the car if you've already disconnected any of the lines, big mess.

My '82 has the fuel pump relay under the dash. Remove the glovebox. Along the right side there are a couple relays. One of those you can hear click with the ignition. That's the fuel pump relay.

There is actually three relays for the EFI. Two under the hood and one under the dash.

I just did my injectors and bled the line back after pinching off supply line.

Any gas that gets loose evaporates quickly, but its still best to do this outside with good ventilation.

The rest os staright forward, just follow the book...I use the Nissan manual

just go to the back of the car under the dash mat in the rear under the carpet take off the cover and disconnect the fuel pump while the car is running.
