is electrical problems common with '81 280z

How's the fuel delivery? If it has spark and stuff, how's the injector holders? Are they brittle and ready to fall off? How's the cap and rotor? Are they in good shape? Still, either BleachZ, Mudge, or Skully might be able to help you out more.

you might want to check the head temprature sensor... thats a comon problem too... see if your getting an electrical curent on your injector terminals.. if not the first thing id check would be the head temp sensor thats located at the back of the head where your heater hoses come out of the firewall..
