Yes, please pass to us any info. Even www.HybridZ.org has very little info for the ZX. Is the steering box a show stopper? How bout the more forward positioning of the firewall?
Also, any info on SBF-ZX swap? Close to zip on HibridZ. The Ford, while not as popular as the Chevy, is a good mil and noticibly lighter than the Chevy.
Thanks,
John

280 ZX swap
yea most of the people on hybridz.org site have swaps from 240z 260z or 280z's. But i believe that Motorsport sells motor mounts that fix the firewall problem, and i think the sterring column doesn't affect the swap at all. As far as a ford swap i wouldn't do it because of the money. Their is alot more stuff for the chevy swap to the 280zx then the ford. Also Chevy parts are cheap and my personal preference has always been Chevy. Good luck though and if you ever want to chat on AOL IM my name is

Chris,
Great, I'm hoping to do the SBC swap the first of the year, I'll give you a shout then. Let me know when you begin yours. BTW, mine is an 81 ZX, N/A. I'll have to deal with the Calif. smog geeks, but that won't stop me.
You're right bout the Chevy being more available and cheaper with a greater selection of high performance parts. I'm far too old to get into the Chevy v. Ford thing, having owned a dozen of each.
At work I drive a Crown Vic and its a sweet machine that performs well for a four door sedan. I mention the Ford mil cuz its weight is comparable to the L8 which should improve handling.
I'll probably choose the SBC swap because it looks easier.
Good luck,
John

For motor mounts I used late 60's/ early 70's chevy truck motor mounts, as in the JTR manual. I made spacers to go between the motor mounts and the engine block; 1.38" thick on passenger side and 2.75" on drivers side. The chevy truck motor mounts then bolt up to the Datsun crossmember. Quite simple, really.

SBC Conversion
Kewl SPDSK8R!
I'm looking at putting an LS1 in my 2+2, ripping out the rear seats (like they can really be used as seats) and filling rear seat area with audio equipment and such.
What engine did you use? Have you worked it or left it standard until all is worked out?
Is it EFI or carbs?
I'll be watching your conversion with interest
Cheers,
Pete

Pete,
The motor is a 91 350 truck motor from a Chevy G-30 one ton van. The engine is rebuilt, stock compression. The heads are "cleaned up" stock 194's with dual springs. It has a Performer intake with a Holley 600 double pump carb. The cam specs are 488/510 lift and 295/305 dur. hydraulic. Power is running through a performance rebuilt 700R4 with a 2200 stall converter into a single leg R-200 with 3.70 gears. Exhaust will be dual 2 1/4" to single 3" through a Flowmaster dual chamber muffler to back of car. GM manifolds are being used, due to stearing box. Ramshorn on passenger side and manifold casting number 364747 on the drivers side. This manifold has a notch that clears the stearing box. In the future I plan on fabricating a custom header to fit around the box.and use a block hugger on the passenger side.
