bump up the boost

The majority of the community will tell you that 10psi is the most you can run without an IC. I for one have run up to 12psi with no problems. I used high octane gas + additives and learned to listen to the engine at WOT. It isn't very safe though but you know your car better than anyone does so you have to pay attention at these boost levels. If I where you, I would hook up an aftermarket boost gauge + a boost controller....then raise your boost 1psi at a time...once you hear a little pinging, bump it down and your done. Where you live (elevation) also plays a major role in how your car takes the boost. I live in Vegas and 12psi here was a-ok. But when I was in San Diego, I couldn't boost passed 10psi without pinging. You'll have fun with 10psi but I would highly recommend an intercooler as your next big mod. Believe me it's worth it and there's a big difference between 12psi intercooled and non-intercooled. The turbo just runs more efficient. Good luck and be safe...don't blow your motor!
I agree with RatedZ. I just wanted to add that a good upgrade with higher boost is a aluminum fuel rail with adjustable fuel pressure regulator. Along with that get a fuel pressure guage and air/fuel ratio guage setup. I'm going with Nordskog for my guages. This way you can watch your air/fuel ratio and see if you're running lean at high boost levels and with the adjustable fuel pressure regulator you can up the fuel pressure to help compensate. Running slightly rich will help prevent detonation. Its also good to flow test your fuel injectors to see at what pressure they flow the best and what pressure they start to reduce flow. I found that mine flow the most at 60psi and they're stock fuel injectors.

I live in LA am boosting 10-12 psi without intercooler no pinging
but i put octane booster and 91 oct so far its good I got a turbonetics manual boost controller, cold air intake removed the pop-off valve a acurate autometer boost and air/fuel guage to see my air fuel ratio so far so good 150 thousand miles on my engine

Go fast
Thanks for the info, I just got my injectors back from the cleaners , have not installed them yet , waiting on seals. Im wondering about the fuel pressure, 60 psi sounds heafty, what is the stock fuel pressure set at?? I will need to pick up a air & fuel ratio gauge . I have a after market boost gauge , also not installed yet. 10 pounds of boost should be quite a improvement, Im only running about 5 Lbs currently, The guy at the injector shop says the spring in the wastegate could be weak, who knows , thats another project for my list. Later, Bonz

60 psi was just a reference number for me on my car setup. They did flow the best at that number. I just used it to make sure that while under boost I didn't go over that number. The stock setup is regulated at 32-37psi with vacuum to the regulator. It goes up from there when under boost. Not sure of exact number...I scrapped mine for the adjustable one before I got that number. I'm only running a low 7 psi of boost until I get a new pop off valve and running at 37psi of fuel pressure under vacuum which raises to 48 psi under boost and that is plenty to keep my cars A/F where I want it. It'll take some tweeking on your car to see where it likes it. Good luck.
