Brake Help

I just started changing my brakes. I got the caliper off and replaced the pads but when i tried to put the caliper back on with the new pads it would not go on. I tried pushing the caliper piston down with a c-clamp and it would not budge. If anyone know what the problem would be please help me out.

try opening the bleed valve on the caliper to relieve the pressure, then push the piston back. It will squirt brake fluid but you will atleast beable to move the piston back.

The rear caliper will need to be "screwed" in. You have to get some pliers on the edges and turn it quite a few times to get it to go back in. Sometimes this may require removing the caliper from the car. Then you'll have to bleed the whole rear brakes.

theres another method to turning the rear caliper pistons insted of using pliers... pliers can cause damage to the pistons.. use a flat head screwdriver that will fit into the little slots on the face of the pistons and turn the piston that way...

You're local Nissan dealer has a special tool that is used to screw them down. Ive never used one myself but you should be able to borrow one or something. You could also do it the cheapo way.

Pep boys has em too,its shaped like a cube and each side has a different size/shape pin set . Most of the ones I'e seen fit on a 3/8'' ratchet. Sears might have them but I'm not sure. They're only 10 bucks and you'll eventually need it again.

I forgot to mention that you turn it clockwise with the bleeder open to get the piston to retract into the caliper.

Ya, I think I also used a flat head screwdriver once. A really wide tip helps.

Thanks for the tip on the tool. I'll look for one of those. I should be keeping my Z a long time and I have to do that every time I replace the brake pads.
