ballast resistor

i bought a msd blaster 3 and it mentions that some require a 0.8ohm ballast resistor. has anybody done this on their car and if so did it require the resistor? it's a n/a 280zx

I have a Blaster 2... I didn't need to hook up a resistor just for the coil. I did need a resistor to use my Mallory ignition & tach adapter.
