AFM to Throttle body boot
AFM to Throttle body boot
New Member. I've wanted a "z" since I was 14 years old and finally, after 42 years, the stars were in the right alignment and I recently was able to purchase one. 1982 non-turbo, with T tops. 82,000 miles. Basically one of those "found it in a barn" type cars you hear about. But anyways, I started looking at the engine a bit and noticed some duck tape on the AFM/TB boot. Figuring it was cracked, I found a new/used one on Ebay and bought it. I went to install it yesterday and the diameter of the end that attaches to the TB is significantly small that the TB opening, almost a 1/2 inch. I got to looking at the boot that i took off and it appears somebody split the boot to "make it fit". Does this mean the TB was replaced or am it missing something? Other than that, the car runs great, looks great and surprising enough, for being in Upstate New York, no rust on her.
Welcome to ZDriver!
I'm seeing lots of clamps where there should only be one... It looks like there's still a boot on the throttle body (see my red arrows). Remove the boot at the yellow arrow.

Air flow booth to trottle body
Nismo, the reason he has extra clamps is that he has a Weber big troat trottle body which requires those extra clamps. So yes the stock trottle body was replaced by a Weber which requires a bigger diameter booth which was never manufactured by Nissan to accommodate the Weber T/B. That's it.

I'd agree with Zdon. The extra clamps seem to be an adapter to reduce down the intake. There's a metal reducer that's not the right size for the boot. So some one did the "make it fit" cob job. Thanks.
Now Rough
I replaced the throttle chamber with a stock one, sorry Zdon found one nearby less money. Now it won't idle. The idle adjustment assembly appears to be disconnected see picture one. Do I have all the hose correct? see picture two.
Think I got it
Had some more time this morning, checked all the vacuum lines and changed a few of them around. Tightened all the other clamps and she idled, low at first then dies out. I think it was because it was cold and when warm the idle setting is too low. I still might not have the correct throttle chamber. The illustration shows a port on the bottom. The one I installed does not. I believe this is where the idle speed adjustment hose is suppose to go. Any one know if I can "bolt on" this port or just go and get another throttle chamber

If you live in a place that can get pretty cold I would suggest keeping the throttle body with the coolant lines going into it, they go in there because of the cooling effect of engine vacuum, on a cold day you could get ice build up after running the engine a while, the coolant prevents that from happening by circulating it through the throttle body.
