79 s130 carb conversion
I've had 3 z's in my life... a '79, an '80, and now an '83. If you need to retune your car every week then there is a problem with it. If you have your z expert fix the problem there would be no need for a carb conversion. I'm just sayin'. Personally I feel the FI system is way better.
Im out of college with a 2 year degree, and I would be the first person to tell you that I dont know eveything. and I do have a friend with his own Z shop you can drive out to Idaho if you dont believe me, stop making assumptions about me for questioning an answer because I heard something different.
Nismopick- I was referring to his insulting comments regarding my good friend("the no nothing z mechanic of 20 years")
Im trying to figure out my options and choose the best one by process of elimination
"No offense but your "z spe******t mechanic" is either a shister or an idiot since he knows pretty much nothing about the stock EFI system."
most forums would have booted his *** by now, just saying.

If you're friend is an "expert" I don't even see why you would even need to come to us and tell us your car is going out of tune every week other than he doesn't know what he's doing or he's taking you for a ride. Maybe you were going to take it to him or you thought of doing the carbs yourself and it wasn't his idea as a fix - I only have the information that you presented to us and that's what I was responding too. So again I'm sorry if I offened you that wasn't the idea.
thnx for the apology, he doesn't charge anything to retune it as it take 5 minutes, and he has offered several ideas as to the problem, including cyl head temp sensor, fouled contacts, tensioner screw jumping threads, bad a/f meter. I came up with the carb idea myself. I haven't started driving it everyday anyway and I had no job so fixing it has been low in my priorities.
I really don't feel jipped at all going to him, hes offered to try a different afm for free, and always tells me how to diagnose a problem, or how to fix it if I myself am stuck on something. he has most of his **** figured out, the only thing he has been wrong on so far is which power steering line is return and which is send which was no biggy since I tested them before putting them in anyway (he also stutters a little, might have had something to do with what he ended up saying). IMO he's one of the few honest mechanics in my area right now.

Rb25 is a good choice, my friend has one he's putting into his S30, but used to be in his 240sx (mad powah!)
However, you will probably need to fabricate your own engine/transmission mounts, as McKinney Motorsports makes M/T Mounts for the rb20/25/26 swap into the S30 Z and S13 Chassis, but not the S130 Z, wiring will be the easiest part in this case, whereas with the Rb20 will "Drop" (term is used lightly, you need the automatic transmission mount from a 280zx, and you need to bore out the motor mounts on the chassis, but you get to use the motor mounts that come with the rb20) With any RB swap into the S130 chassis you will also need to have your oil pan and pickup tube flipped around completely to clear the steering rack.
Obviously you're wanting power, go Rb25, the Rb20 is nice out of the box, but if you like pooping your pants a little, get the Rb25
We'd rather help you out, than irritate you so much that you abandon your Z and go out and buy a Mustang
