That's the fuel pump control module.... all 280zxt's had it. Again I say, WHICH WIRES ARE DIFFERENT? Give me the harness pin# or color code of the wires that are different between 82 & 83 turbo models.

nismo pick... the fuel computer wires are the same , but hears what i got

x blue+black white+yellow x

White x BLACK Blue+white

thats for the 82

hears the 83

X Blue+black - white+yellow X
?YELLOW? X Black Blue+white

is it possable that the yellow wire meens that the fuel computer is burnt out ? i took it out of the 83 and tried to plug it into mu 82 and my 82 didint want to work.. so chanches are its the fuel unit huh nismopick ?

Do you hear the fuel pump kick on when you try to start it? Make sure that box is grounded too... the fuel pump won't work if it's not. And the extra "yellow" wire for should be the least of your worries.

So the fuel pump works... which means you don't have to worry about those ecu/fuel pump module wires... and it backfires... which means it has at least a little spark. And if I remember correctly, the plugs were soaking wet in fuel?

If it's backfiring, it would most likely be lean.

sounds like the timing might be WAY outta whack. set the engine to TDC (on compression) and verify the position of the rotor (in the distributor). It should be pointing relatively close to the #1 tower on the cap.

the easiest way to set it to TDC is to pull out all the spark plugs and line up the timing notch on the crank pully with the '0' on the timing plate. Thats TDC.

You shouldn't be turning the camshaft... just the crankshaft (is that what ya meant to say?) The easiest way to see if the engine is at top dead center, is to pull the distrib cap off, and turn the crank to the 0 degree mark on the timing plate, and make sure the rotor under the cap is facing straight forward (if you put the cap back on, it would be directly under sparkplug wire #1. That is TDC.
