It won't work. The trubo distributor is controled by the turbo ECU for different ignition advance for the forced induction.

Im ask because i know people use the turbo distributor on the 280z's. So if it would work for a 280z which has an even more simple ignition system, y wouldnt it work on my 83 ZX?

Are you sure about that? You better ask your friend's exactly what they did. First of all, I don't know of any real differences in a 280Z and 280ZX ignition system so I'm not sure why you think a 280Z is more simple.

Maybe they run a 280ZX distributor on a 240Z? That I've heard of. As far as a turbo goes, I don't think it would work... but I could be wrong. I already looked into it and from my research it was not a good swap.

What you could do is use the whole trubo engine and distributor. That would give you some more power.

a turbo dist on a na?

why don't you put some desiel in your tank to make matters worse.

the turbo timing is about 18 degrees before DTC versus just a few degrees for na/s

there are also 2 different dist for the 81-83 turbos

the 81 has an external cas while the 82-83 is an internal cas

the 83 ECU also will NOT work on any other year turbo (81 or 82)

Thee best distributor on your 280z na is an 82/83 zx na distributor with the black box module. It's a better dist.upgrade for quicker start up on cold day and great if you have to do smog on your Z. I have a complete harness wired and setup to run on a 75 to 78 z with the 83 Zx turbo distributor and comes with a large air-flow meter looks like from a Ford 5.0 and eliminates cold start valve, thermotime switch and the efi relays. Look under my A/D for 78Z convertable part/out posted a few days ago.
