280z that wasnt supposed to be a project -_-
Heyy guys yall are probably gonna be hatin me over the next few months im a 19yr old who got the chance at a 1981 280zx N/a its my first car and the one im gonna build build build right now it looks pretty bad ha ive got a bunch of pictures for you guys and just a few questions for now
my main question is with the wiring by the battery box when i got the car it had no battery and after getting it home i found out the starter was on the floor board thats when i realised i bit alittile more than i could chew... tweakers happen to try to put the starter on a honda or somethin and found out it wouldnt fit and just threw it on the floor....... anyways i was tondering how to ground the battery where to ground it and what to do with a few other wires around the area.
i think the first pic is some random cut wires that may have other ends i have the wiring diagram but its so confusing for a first timer ha the second there are two separate ground wires and the positive comes off the starter?? sorry if these questions seem retorical or if i sound like an idiot id just rather not **** somethin else up doing something wrong im thankful to find a fourm like these cause she is definatly a dimond in the rough

Well, the battery should ground from the (-) terminal to a spot on the body just to the right of the battery, and from there to the starter (at least in my 79'). I'm sure one of the guys with the same model year would be able to say much more.
One thing I would look into in the near future (or if you do happen to have to replace your fusible links) is a MAXI fuse upgrade. http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techti...nks/index.html
the color coding is essentially the same, there are also some writeups on the forums. I personally gig an AGU fuse upgrade, but those are not carried by your local auto parts store.
Above all, have you downloaded the FSM from xenons130?

Welcome! Grab the FSM from XenonS130 as MurphyEF mentioned - almost everything you ever wanted to know about the car is in there.

i have the fsm downloaded and the wiring diagram just confused the hell out of me the good news is thats the only spot that i cant understand on the wiring diagram the rest of the cars wires are still lookin new everything underthe dash inside is great looks mostly brand new. is there a cheap soultion to the hole what should i do for now i eventually will replace the part if i knew what it was i think its a inner fender wall right? or is it something else i wanna get this thing runnin though i dropped the gas tank today and cleaned it with about 4 bottles of ever clear and about four pounds of gravel to knock what ever was loose i googled that and someone said thats the best way and that i might wanna recondition it if it was too bad although it didnt seem to be
the weathers been real cold down here so i didnt get a chance todo anything with the car today back to the battery whats the cheapest soultion for the whole where the battery should be? a new battery box? i plan on replacing the rusted parts would it be easier to just weld a new ppiece in or to buy the new part?
you better get electricity for dummies and learn to read schematics. You need a vom. cheapy at harbor freight will work fine for what you need. take the fsm schematics on a a thumb drive to Kinkos. have them blow them up to 11x17 be a lot easier to read.
thanks for the advice im gonna get a multimeter as soon as i get a chance this car was sitting for like 15 years its pretty bad at what point should a car become a donor car cause this z is definitly around there ha the frame has so much rust i couldnt belive what i got my self into when i got home i can see the finshed idea already its just the money to get there..
