1983 280zx starts fine but once gets warm it dies ????

I just replaced the starter and idle bearing in the car... and when i went to drive it away from the mechanics it wouldnt accelerate and go faster than 14mph and it also sputtered a little bit. So i took it back and its been a week now and they dont know what to do. they have tried replacing the part for the idle bearing thinking it was defective but that didnt work, it seems that its starts fine but once it actually warms up it seems to die.

so please anyone , help is needed.

Welcome to ZDriver!

Sounds like you found a crappy mechanic shop (feel free to tell them that).

What do you mean by "idle bearing" ? As in the idler / tension pulley for the power steering or a/c belts? Or do you mean the clutch throw out bearing?

When it dies, does it start right back up?

You need to verify that fuel & spark is getting to every cylinder. Also make sure the TPS, AFM, and CHTS are all plugged in correctly & free of any corrosion or moisture. Also check the timing.

TPS (throttle position sensor) AFM (air flow meter) CHTS (cylinder head temperature sender) Does that help you out?

It starts right back up . At idle the timing light shows right on and when u add throttle the timing advances off the scale .

These are fun cars. Research read, read, read, and read on this fourm is alot of good info that has all ready been gone over. and buy the book for ur car too and read that. Then all with the great guys on here you can be lead in the right direction. Once you get started figuring out the genrals of car operations things will get easier. I'd say ditch that shop no reson to pay good money if they dnt know Z's. If its ur bud helping you then just say so k
Like the man said check out all those componets as there main keys to keep the car running.. Good luck hope you get to run her on the road for real soon

i had this problem, there is a module on the side of the dizzy, if its defective then it will do that. i also have seen the wires corrode or come loose to its plug and cause simmilar problems. also check the other connections that have been mentioned prior. there is a chance that the mechanic bumped something and its causing the problem. im gonna say they bumped the dizzy module as they worked close to it when doing that pulley.
