tow hook, woot! S130 79

not to be one of those guys messing up the boards with rice-mode questions but anyone know of a good solid place to mount a front tow hook besides attached to the stock front hook loop?
don't tell me to take it off, I like the look
thanks

You going to weld it in? Screw it in?

Location... take your pick. Since it's apparently for looks, and not for actual use, you could superglue (or hot glue) it to your bumper.

What do you want us to say? Nissan has obviously designed the car and placed a tow hook in the best location already...

Attach it to the middle of the radiator. Use a nail gun. Works perfect for plastic tow hooks you buy off eBay

^^^ I prefer manual tools (like a hammer)... There's just a different feeling between a "puh-ching - puh-ching" and a "SLAM-BOOM-HISS-SDKFH@#$#$2346^"@#".

It would have to be a really long hook if you wanted it to be seen, because the bumpers extend 7 miles from the body. don't take it anywhere if your just going to make it cosmetic, just JB weld that hook on somewhere, and if you do it right you can make it look like a real weld

You would actually put the tow hook where the factory tow hooks are located or if you have the front bumper off you would mount one where a bumper shock mounts. Keep in mind this is really only done for racing & only because regulations specify for a tow hook inlet of minimum 2" diameter & to be readily accessable for track workers to access - meaning not tucked away underneath body panels.

Just buy a 350Z bumper and install it on the 280ZX.

Those tow hooks will actually break if you do anything other then a strait pull. Most race cars are either two from the cage in the engine bay, or have solid steel hooks welded to the chassis.

And yes, hooks on the track are still rice, because it tells people you don't know how to drive and need to be pulled out. Plus a majority of bolt on tow hooks aren't approved by the SCCA or NASA.

It does, but you are going to look like a tool on the track with a stock street car and a tow hook. Kind of like the guys who drive around after a track day with the tape still on their lights...

I'm going to do my best to reply with something actually relevant to your question.
