Ground Effects Kit?

Alright this is new to me, but I hear there are such things as ground effects kits that help to improve aerodynamics? Is this usually like a front mounted spoiler type thing that goes under the front of the car? Can someone explain this in more detail to me? I'm interested. I always thought ground effects referred to under car neons...

The smoother the air can flow around your car, the better. So most body kits are designed to do so (prolly not those extreme rice rocket gawdy ones tho).

One big aerodynamic help is to smooth out the underside of the car w/ flat panels. It's all about reducing drag! I could go on... but I feel lazy right now, so someone else can point out some other things.

Theres not a single body/ground effects kit for our cars that has actually had any R&D put into to it to make it more aerodynamically effective. That would take wind tunnel testing and very, very few manufacturers actually do that. Mugen being one. And you can tell by how expensive their kits are. Most of the lower air damn kits for the Z aren't really any better than the stock design when it comes to reducing drag or adding downforce.

Installing a front splitter under the front air damn can help to create downforce or it can simply be used to reduce lift. The latter being more desirable on lower speed vehicles. It's designed to direct air to go somewhere other than under the car. On a street car the first thing to be concerned about is drag. Reducing drag will raise you mpg and help your car accelerate at higher speeds. Headlight covers are an obvious drag reducer on our cars. Underbody panels can be used to reduce drag, but more importantly they can be used to reduce lift.

for my car i bought some light gauge aluminium sheet metal and cover the bottom of the front half of the car and then started another sheet from the beggining of the rear crossmember to the back where the gas tank straps mount.

cool, i was thinking of doing the same just to clean up the look underneath...another thing you have to look at is the way air flows under the car...
when ferrari designed enzo, the panels underneath actualy create suction to pull the car to the road...
