The LSD is a 3.7 gear and on the 1987-89 turbo only. Not the non-turbo 300ZX. Your 83 n/a has a 3.9

It is an R200 and is supposed to just bolt in. The 300ZX LSD has a finned (heat sink) rear cover that won't work, so you just swap on a 280zx rear cover. Besides that it should work good. Just watch out for the vicous LSD on the 1988 white 300ZX. (look for a sticker on the side of the rear) Those have different half-shafts and are more work to fit in a 280zx.

if i recall correctly i cant see why that wouldnt work

and with the finned cover. something you do not want to do is rid yourself of the finned cover and also of the extra fluid capacity and cooling effect of the finned heat sink.

if i remeber right i dont see why it would not bolt up perfectly without any modifications.

search for jeffp on this site and ask him as i know he did use this combination on his 83 280ZXT

The 280zx's mustache bar bolts right through the rear cover of the R200. The finned rear cover sticks back further. It is nice to have that feature, but requires custom mounts.
