The person that talks in the isn't working??????
I changed out my radio to a custom unit, but my lady still talks. She's located in the rear of the car near the spare tire well, if you remove that piece there you'll see a black box. Check the connections and stuff, they could be dirty or loose. Only problem I have is that my radio reception went to poop ever since I installed the radio. I can't figure it out either cause my antenna is plugged in to the unit, but it doesn't pick up stations except in certain areas... Oh well, I guess that's what the CD/MP3 stuff is for! lol

from what i have read and seen in my car and haynes manuel is
that the center speaker in the dash plays the voice
the factory wires (i forgot which colors and im at work now) run the signal. get a spare 4" speaker and run those 2 wires to it and it should work. Or just have a friend ride with you all the time to remind you when your lights are on and your low on gas etc. works for me.

Now I don't have a problem with my lady talking to me in my '83na. But in my '84T/AE she isn't giving up the goods... From what I can gather, the voice is transmitted from an "unused" wire that connects to the left front speakers. If you can, I'd trace the wires from the center speaker and splice it to one of the radio speaker sends (between the radio and the speaker).
I'm in the A/V business so this would make sense to me as far as sending a signal to the speaker. You might also get the radio through that center speaker as well so, the small 2"-4" speaker would help form blowing the quarter sized speaker that's already there.

Dude I replaced my factory system with a custom but i used the factory speaker wires in the dash so I could just unplug everything when the dash is removed. I need a new dash cap, my lady still talks and I belive it is from the front center speaker. You can use the factory wires if you just find the correct color wires in the harness.........
yeah but she won't talk if your door light switches aren't hooked up right or if the gas guage is stuck or whatnot. I completely took out the door switches in my '82ZX, but forgot to tape the ends of the wires and now, the slightest bump will turn on the overhead lamp and say "*bing*the door is ajar"
And I always yell back "THE DOOR IS NOT A JAR!!! IT"S A DOOR!!!!"
