i was talking about how lww got the perfect almost 0 gap between his hood and bumper

but some more of the type 2 instalation instructions would be great!

how did you install the type 2 airdam ?, do you know or have a link, if not could you answer a few of my questions, i couldnt find anything here or on hybrid z

#1. Does it bolt up to the original bumper shock absorbers?

#2. Does it use the original heavy steal bumper reinforcers?

#3. how do you compress those bumper shock absorbers?

i've been meaning to ask you about the bumper it self in your car, is it aftermarket or a modified stock bumper?

if its croked? thats.... not a word, if your referring to how its warped the sun will make it mushy and malleable so you can form it back to the way it should be then let it cool and mount.

No modification to the bumper will last because it's made of a 25 year old polymer that can't be blended into additional material without cracking and separating over time. Fiberglass won't work either, because it'll also crack over time.

I took a hood from a 1st gen Z and cut 3" off the front lip and grafted it to the front lip of the hood on my 280ZX. Once it was properly fitted there is only about a 3/16" gap between the "new" hood and the bumper.

It was about a 40 or 50hr job to cut it, fit it, weld it and blend it smoothly into the original hood and make sure the transition was completely invisible. You can't even tell it's two pieces from the side or from under the hood.

If I was a wuss with no vision, creativity or welding skills, I would go with the fiberglass S130 bumper too...

By that standard, any "buyable" kit would fall under that catagory... which I'm sure you still feel the same. I'm just sayin.

I took the 3" of front lip from the 1st gen Z's hood and welded it to the front lip of the stock 280ZX hood.

Go outside and measure the gap between your stock bumper and your stock hood. Now look at the top and bottom of the front lip on your hood and try to figure out how hard it would be to cut off the front lip of your hood and weld the front lip of another hood on in it's place AND make it look like it was originally stamped that way. It's not easy when you're working with metal that changes size and shape when it's super-heated by welding.

If you don't see the difficulty of the process, I understand how you could fail to appreciate the accomplishment.

I've seen it in person, and it is a subtle, but nice improvement. Hehe, it's the usual car-guy thing of spending hours on a project to "improve" your car that probably few others will even notice.

i didnt say it was EASY i just said said i thought it was a waste of time

oh and im done, just dont know how to get the lip strait, the sun didnt woork just right so i might have to get a piece of metal and bolt it on the backside of the lip to get it strait
