To be honest I'm not sure. I remember hearing that the same basic seat structure was used until the 300ZX (I think on the back of my Z trading cards where one of the most radical changes from the elder Z's were the seats). I like my bucket's anyway...

 

It dependsa on the model I think. The 81ZX has a seat that rocks back and forth, tilts and reclines. the 79 had just basic seats. My 78Z seats fit into my 79 but I havent tried my 81. I put Miata seats in my 78Z and they only required making 1 inch spacers, so the slide mechanisim wold work.
If you want I can messure my &*Z seat and give you the dimensions front to back, side to side and diagnal. From bolt hole to bolt hole.

How do those Miata seats work out for you? I like the buckets in my 79 (not the ones with the gay small headrest..the actual buckets), but something with a but more lateral support may be key b/c man, when i whip into corners I go everywhere!

 

The Miatas work great for lateral support. I hang in the mountains outside of Helena MT and the seats hold me tight. I also get to use the factory Z seat belts. They are a lot more comfortable and give you a better seating position, you dont feel like your *** is dragging on the ground. I would not trade my Miata seats for nothing. I picked them up at a wreckers for 100 bucks for the pair. they came out of a 92 Miata that only had 20k on it before the fool hit a pole head on. So th material is perfect. They required only 1inch spacers over the mounting bolts to give the seat clearence to slide. The spacers were free.

 

I was considering some Sparco's or used Recardos..but Corbeaus and Miata seats have become a more viable and affordable option.

 

For ease of installation the Miatas were the best way for me to go.

 

I bought the seats on ebay and then got the sliders from Corbeau and I love them.

I just recently got my 280zx from my dad. The sad thing is its in bad condition because my aunt abandoned it at some parking lot. What seats do you guyz suggest? Mine are all torn up. I dont have a lot of money to spend right now. I was probably thinkin of goin to a pik n pull near my place.

 

It all depends on how much money you have to spend. I have Miata seats in my 78Z. I paid 100 for the pair. I have heard that Civic seats are an easy fit, and probably a lot cheaper and easy to find. I have a set of 78Z seats out of my Z. i will sell you for 50 plus shipping.
