Has anyone installed a old school small block chevy with a Muncie 4 spd in to a 75 280z? I haven't seen one and wanted to know if it would fit as far as the shifter and tunnel ???

I have the latest edition of that manual but it does't have that tranny in there. T5 t56 , corvette with over drive and automatics. I'll probably go auto but saw a sweet deal here with a engine and tranny with shifter . I was just curious if the shifter and the hole in the tunnel would line up.

The transmissions in the JTR manual all have the shifter in the centerline of the trans with the shifter way back on the tail shaft housing. The Z used a T5 with the same setup that comes up through the center of the trans tunnel. I don't know if the shifter levers and arms would clear the tunnel but you would have to build a box on the side of the tunnel for the shifter. This is just a guess but I think the Muncie is also a lot shorter so you would probably have to get and/or make a new console.

And..... you lose the 5th (or 6th) gear overdrive. I would go with a T5 or T56.

 

Yes I passed on the engine and tranny and will probably go T5 or automatic.
