1972 240z, info for ls1 swap.
I am new to the Z family, and i am looking to drop an LS1 into it once the funds become available.
I was wondering if any one had any:
1) tips in general for the swap
2) idea how long it would take if i work most weekends
and most importantly
3) what engine mods i should do on the LS1 before i drop it into the Z
i will post pictures through out the whole process and discuss any issues/problems i may encounter during the swap.
Note: it may take a year to a year and a half to complete, it depends how dilligent i am.
thank you for looking and i hope to hear from y'all

Welcome to ZDriver!
Have fun!
That depends on your mechanical, engineering, electrical, and fabrication skill levels. "Most weekends" is a pretty wide open time frame. It also depends on what needs to be done along the way, and unforeseen / sudden obstacles.
Time frames will be different for the master mechanic vs backyard mechanic vs my grandma.
That's up to you... How much do you have to spend? How much hp do you want?
Excellent.
I also moved your thread to the V8 motor swap section.

thank you for your reply... i am a pretty savvy mechanic, but do not have the tools to fabricate much. i just moved and had to basically leave my whole shop behind.
im looking to have AT LEAST 400rwhp at the moment i drop the engine in, more would be nice. im not a bottomless pit of cash but if i know how much i need to spend within reason, i can make things work.
and i have had an LSx engine before and have done a few upgrades, so i knwo the basic lid swap and ls6 manifold stuff that most people suggest first. im more looking for internal engine information such as what cam and rods to use and a few less common bolt on items as well
also, should i spend the money and rebuild the engine myself while the engine is out? and basically start with a new engine, or should i not worry about it

Actually - there is a manual for that.
It has been done many times before. I suggest you start by reviewing the information on the Hybrid Z site HybridZ Then you should consider purchasing the Jags That Run JTR Datsun Z Car V-8 Conversion, manual for Datsun V8 manual. Its a great conversion. Good luck!
